Erika (17789 KP) rated Suicide Squad (2016) in Movies

What can I say about Suicide Squad? To be nice, the soundtrack was great and Margot Robbie did a good job with Harley. I cannot understand why the relationship between Joker and Harley is always romanticized, because it's definitely not romantic. The plot was rushed and discombobulated, and they underutilized characters. Why did they killed off Slipknot five minutes after introducing him? Why even waste the time introducing him? I personally can't stand Jared Leto as an actor, but I understood where they were going with the new Joker. But, in comparison to Heath Ledger, he was trash.

Will Arnett (1 more)
CGI with the use of real Lego was awesome
Batman became annoying (1 more)
The plot was jumbled and confusing
Very Humourous
It was a pretty cool movie, the CGI was really clever and the combination of that with the use of real Lego made it pretty awesome. Will Arnett is a hilarious actor which made it enjoyable, however, I wasn't a fan of the storyline. It felt jumbled and confusing, and Batman generally being a douche got on my nerves after a while. A good family movie made better with 3D but not something I would watch again.
Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated Gods and Monsters (1998) in Movies
Jun 10, 2019
McKellen teamed up with director Bill Condon in 1998 for Gods & Monsters. This period drama recounts the partly fictionalised last days of the life of film director James Whale, whose experience of war in the First World War is a central theme.
Although criticised for being overly-simplistic, McKellen’s performance received rave reviews, and he was nominated for his first Academy Award in the Best Actor category. Unfortunately, he didn’t go on to win this time around, but it remained a highlight in a career filled with fabulous work.

Mayhawke (97 KP) rated Training Day (2001) in Movies

Washington changing direction with style
Brutal, hard-hitting film in which an old hand (Washington) educates a narcotics rookie (Hawke) in the 'realities' of the job.
Tensions begin to mount when it transpires that the realities are considerably more 'real' than the rookie is prepared for, and a whole lot dirtier than he was expecting.
Whenthis film came out I think it was the fist time Washington had taken a part where he wasn't Mr Nice-Guy, which was a nice twist that he carried brilliantly
Ethan Hawke, an actor I've always thought very underused, also delivers a characteristically good performance

Cinematography (3 more)
True to the feel of the book, even with changes
Good actor choices
Good pace throughout
So good I've seen it twice...
Absolutely loved this film. Saw it and immediately wanted to watch it again - so wen't back a couple days later and experienced it in 4DX. I really don't have a bad word to say about it. Even if you weren't focusing on the nostalgia bits, it's a fantastic tale translated to the big screen incredibly well. Would be a great note on which to end Spielberg's career if he is starting to think about that

Often compared to Saving Private Ryan for its gritty and unforgiving story of brotherhood and loss.
This time we are shown what it's like to fight from the confines of a dark and cramped tank, and we are shown how each man has to work not only very closely with each other but as one fighting tool.
Brad Pit is quite the actor and is the father figure here and the glue that binds his men together.
One to watch if you love war movies although at times it does feel like an anti war war movie.
