Honey Boy (2019)
Honey Boy (2019)
2019 | Biography, Drama
392. Honey Boy. A story about a boy, who's dad made a living off him, by pimping him out to Hollywood, ensuring he would grow up to be a weirdo, the Shia LeBeouf story. Ok, it's written by him, oh and it stars him as Tom Cruise's character from Born on the Fourth of July, only he's not in a wheel chair, he has a son. Dad, James and son, Otis live in a motel, close by the movie studios where Otis is a child actor, doing child actor things...insert Corey Feldman stories here... while his dad, lives off him, and doing other shady things and not being a good dad, and how the two deal with that. Movie also tells the tale of twenty-something Otis, and his adult acting life is... insert Shia LeBeouf stories here... where he relives the memories we are watching. Guy who plays older Otis, Lucas Hedges, has LeBeouf's super annoying way of aggressive, spit-talking and mannerisms down pact, even though it's not supposed to be him in the first place...ooops. I really did enjoy the movie I just felt there were several places where I felt the filmmakers were patting themselves on the back, saying to themselves 'yea man, this is deep. stretch this out a little longer, man, really show that this 12 year old boy's relationship with the prostitute across the way is beautiful, not creepy in any way at all.' Worth the watch, check it out! Filmbufftim on FB

In short, Belfast is a very human and truly wonderful piece of cinema.
It's visual style is both stunning and simple, and is brimming with plenty of striking imagery.
It's themes are rich. The setting explores the civil unrest between Protestants and Catholics in 1960s Belfast. This turbulent moment in time is a constant presence for sure, but the main bulk of the narrative deals with a working class family who are struggling with debt, and are looking to potentially relocate to England in light of the city wide violence. The very heart of the story though is found in Buddy, the young son of the family who is dealing with growing up and not wanting to leave. Buddy's actor, Jude Hill, is excellent. He embodies innocent childhood and the adventure that comes with it. He's an 11 year old actor, holding his own against screen veterans such as Ciarán Hinds and Judi Dench (both fantastic as always).
Other than Buddy, most of the heavy lifting is undertaken by the mother, played by Caitriona Balfe, who really deserves an Academy Nomination for her role here. Jamie Dornan also stars, who proved to be a pleasant surprise for me, only knowing him from the obvious, and is a welcome addition to an all round stellar cast. Throughout this, the narrative touches upon loss and loneliness, and the moments of life that manage to be bittersweet.

Belfast is a sometimes heartwarming, powerful, occasionally funny, and often melancholy tale told with a lot of love and care. Kenneth Branagh has delivered a slice of cinematic gold.

Where to next?
To play it safe, I borrowed this book from the library - who knows what to expect from an actor who has decided that he wants to write? To say that I'm surprised by this collection of short stories would be an understatement. They have an old fashioned feel to them: the use of language reminds me of movies set in the 20s - 30s. Perhaps it's because he typed them all up on one of his old-fashioned typewriters? Some interesting stories: a bit of time travel, a couple of immigrant stories and much more (it's a big book!). The newspaper-column type stories didn't do it for me, I'm afraid, and I skipped them.
I'm interested to see where he goes with this next!!

This my Rifle This is My gun
This movie is one of the best look into Marine training at Paris Island. The movie is a nice look into the Vietnam war showcasing a great actor in Modine. His character is seen two ways (a killer and protector) and depending on your point of view you get to decide which one he is. The movie is suspenseful and filled with some good history. It also is a little depressing but, what war movie isn't. The best part in my opinion is that R. Lee Ermey was really a Master Sgt in the Marines so he didn't really need training to act the way he did. He frightened Modine as he said in several interviews

A poor version of Snatch
I’m really not sure what the point was in this film. It’s one of those films that’s not great but not bad either, and completely unremarkable and forgettable. I love Sam Rockwell and I think he’s a rather underrated actor in most things, and sadly he’s pretty underused in this. And I know this has probably been done on purpose, but the over the top English accents in this are so irritating! This reminded me very much of a poor version and imitation of Snatch, it played out fairly similarly but without any real laughs or the decent storyline. This film is pretty inoffensive (unless you’re offended by a lot of swear words) but sadly just not very memorable.

Another big actor Netflix dud.
From the opening scene, you get the statement the movie is going to make, which is fine. The continuation of that point is a drum beaten too long that slows down an otherwise decent concept for a thriller. The insipid drivel that holds the story together is boring and annoying, and while I get that's the point, it doesn't help the viewer enjoy the scenes. Gyllenhaal does what he can with his hollow character, but his costars and the verbose dialogue do nothing to help him. In the end, it's a good horror movie concept done in by pretentious storytelling. And while it helps relay the film's message, it makes much of what could have been so good insufferable.

Celebrity gossip fans, reality TV fans, and of course mystery fans are going to love Maizie Albright. She is determined, quirky, and lots of fun. A former child actor who played a detective on TV, Maisie returns home to Black Pine, Georgia seeking an apprenticeship with a real private investigator. Will Maisie be able to convince her unwilling mentor that she’s more than a hollywood has-been? Full of humor and romance, this is a great start to a new series.

Anne Hathaway's accent. (2 more)
Just another hustle film, not really any different from others out there.
The story isn't really that good. Doesn't have that "I Cant stop watching" kind of feeling.
Some bits were really funny but these bits didn't help you forget the story is actually quite dull, the accent Anne Hathaway does is cringeworthy. It is also a film that Rebel Wilson is pretty much the same character she is in every. Other. Film. I love her as an actress but this doesn't really let her show her talent. A good actor or actress can make you feel like the character they are playing is real but i could see rebel the entire film.

My Precious Gem
This is Adam Sandler's best performace of his whole career, thats saying alot because personally i dont like him as a actor and hate his comedy, but i like his drama roles because their are so different from his comedy roles. His drama roles are not with his best friends and just not taking a anethor vaction/road trip.

The Plot: A charismatic jeweler makes a high-stakes bet that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime. In a precarious high-wire act, he must balance business, family and adversaries on all sides in pursuit of the ultimate win.

The whole cast in this movie are excellent and fantasic and outstanding.

A must watch if you havent seen it yet.
