There are 2 things I want to say about this audiobook.


1. The narration does not fit the feel of the book. The narrator would be great for a kids story but not for an adventure story like this. So if I were you, I would read it, not listen to it.

2. When I first started it, I had my doubts; but about 2 chapters in, I knew I was hooked. Even though the narration irritated me, this story is so involved, exciting, entertaining, and all-consuming, that I am dying for the next one. I am so excited and will be waiting for the release date.

If you love adventures, pirates, revenge, and a little hint of magic, this one is for you.

Content/Recommendation: Some violence and mention of sex, but no sexual content. Ages 16+

It took me about a month to finish this book which is rare for me. But I commit myself to finish once I start. So Daniel wakes up one morning and leaves his family during the Great Depression to go and find work and handle some unfinished business. The only problem is his family has no idea. His wife is left with three kids and a newborn her husband doen't know about. While he travels the country looking for work to take care of his family and deals with the nughtmares of the war, his wife has her own nightmares to deal with and no idea where to find her husband. This book is full of interesting "adventures" for all parties involved. If you can make it through the first half of the book with the slow start you won't put it down after that.

Combat dice
Let's start with the artwork. It is beautifully designed with unique characters that are easily remembered. If you enjoy rolling dice and grew up playing yahtzee this is the game for you. Think of it as strictly combat yahtzee you have your variety of different characters that do different skills and spells and your main goal is to defeat the other opponent(s). This can be played 1v1 2v2 3v3 or free for all. The good thing about this game is it recently had a new season with even more characters that can be added. And soon to be on kickstarters a dice throne adventures which is told to be cooperative. Stay tuned for a full review on the game as well as a deeper tutorial on gameplay for people that has never played.

Captain Disaster is the hapless hero of a series of computer games by the author and his (mis)adventures are ripe for some rib tickling short stories.

This book is a collection of these tales, with only the most tenuous connection between them. The author is clearly heavily influenced by Douglas Adams, but although Seaman doesn't match Adams in terms of with his writing or humour, that is not a criticism as he was unique. Instead Captain Disaster has his own voice - aspiring to Adams certainly but with a good mix of silly jokes, slapstick and toilet humour.

Not everything flies but enough works that this is a fun and entertaining read. This is only supposed to be a very lighthearted, knock-about science fiction spoof after all. If you need a smile putting on your face, as well as a few groans being elicited, this is just what you need.
