Exceptional album
As Friends Rust were already good, then this came out and they became legends. They seemingly took fast old school hardcore punk with pop sensabilities in a Day Nasty style but only sounding like As Friends Rust.

Damien's gravel voice goes from growl to crooned while the music rages on. This is hardcore meeting indie without ever being post hardcore. It's just perfect

Great debut studio album
For me this was one of the best albums of the early 2000's it was a great new punk rock sound and had some really catchy songs that would be stuck in your head. Even now it is one of the classic punk rock albums and some songs like In Too Deep still sound great and haven't dated.

"Sounds like a post Chernobyl Fallout album very similar musically to early Lene & Pet Shops. I love 'The Way That I Found You', 'Commodore Rock' and 'Playgirl'. I don't know what it is about them but I love her voice and dead pan delivery - there's a hint of 60's Lynne Redgrave from Smashing Time & loads of mid 80's references. Which leads me neatly to..."

"Starlite Walker by Silver Jews. This doesn’t get talked about too much because people tend to talk about American Water when they talk about Silver Jews. This is the best album though. The first song “Trains Across the Sea” has the same chords as our song “The Wall.” David Berman is my favorite lyricist ever; I love his book of poems called Actual Air."

"This record is a gift that keeps on giving. I listened to the CD on a loop for months in my car. It’s unsuspecting: On first listen, it just sounded like one long song, but upon closer inspection, there’s a whole universe of small, strange moments, peaks and valleys. It’s a progressive concept album—both extremely heavy and lighthearted—with some beautiful sadness sprinkled in between."

"They were a contemporary of mine and were the British equivalent of The Band. They were incredibly original with songs that still sound good today. I record very few covers, but one of them is on my new album – a Gary Brooker and Keith Reid song called The Devil Came From Kansas. I just wanted to pay a tribute to a great British band."
