There was a period, during the early 2000s and 2010s, where Tom Cruise seemed to star in a string of science fiction movies: Minority Report, The War of the Worlds, Edge of Tomorrow (aka Live. Die Repeat).

And this.

Which largely seems to be forgotten.

In this, Cruise plays security repairman Jack Harper, stationed on Earth (after the defeat of an alien invasion) in order to repair drones that look after massive machinery from the remnants of the defeated alien foe.

Or so he initially believes.

Until he rescues a stranger from a downed spacecraft - a woman he has never met yet has recurring dreams of.

So, what we have, really, is a sci-fi mystery where Cruise (of course) sprints, rides motorbikes and tries to make sense of it all!

Great world building
One of my all-time favourite books
This book is one of my all time favourites, I love how character driven it is. I'm a huge fan of ensemble casts, and the crew here were great to read about. I love the vast universe created in this book, especially all the alien species and cultures.

Scarlett Johansson
A true blockbuster film
What more could you ask for from an action film when you have Iron Man, Capt America, Thor, Hulk Black Widow and Hawkeye teaming up to battle an alien invasion. Ground breaking action scenes but thankfully backed up with an engrossing storyline. A must see!

Very entertaining riff on Alien visitation movies of old such as ' _The day the Earth stood still_ ' and also plays on 'Attack of the 50ft Woman'
It's good clean fun with stand out moments and great voice talent from a brilliant cast, it's not the best animated movie out there, but the cast elevates it way above it's unfair mediocre rating!

I really liked the Heart of Darkness vibes from this novel. It's probably one of my favorites by Ballard. The descriptions of the now drowned world are so detailed, and the fact that the city-scape is completely alien. It was a fast-paced, quick read and I read it in one sitting (though, to be fair, I'm a speed-reader).
