CBorden (67 KP) rated Gifted (2017) in Movies
Feb 10, 2018
Chris Evans and McKenna Grace are superb! They elaborately maneuver the labyrinth of raising a gifted child, and being the gifted child trying to be a kid but also embrace the things that make her unique. This movie very clearly shows the struggles from all sides - the guardian, the extended family, the teaching professionals, and the gifted themselves.

Justin Long's character reminds me so much of myself. The line about how his therapist says he's a narcissist for believing he is the smartest person in the world and his reply... Instantly made me love the character. This movie parallels a very... significant time in my life. So close that it's almost scary... Emmy Rossum also is one of my favorite actresses. These two together, which are pretty much the only characters in the story, are more than enough. This movie... It makes me cry almost every time I watch it, but I can't count how many times I have. Maybe it's just how closely it mirrors events in my life, but I fell in love with this movie the first time I saw it and has been my favorite movie ever since. If you are a romantic person, watch this movie. However, be ready to shed a few tears...
Erika (17788 KP) rated Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) in Movies
Aug 24, 2017
Rogue One is a solid entry into the Star Wars canon. I loved all of the new characters, and the nods to the originals. Grand Moff Tarkin is one of my favorite characters, and I'm glad they included him; there couldn't have been a movie about the Death Star without him. While I didn't mind the CGI on Tarkin, the CGI Leia was completely unnecessary.
Also, the end with Vader owning everyone was one of the best parts of the movie.

Jemaine Clement, brilliant as always (1 more)
Taika Waititi, also brilliant as always
Very Funny
Decided to watch this classic again as part of my Halloween movie session. A very funny mockumentary following a bunch of vampires who all share a house and bicker over things like not doing the dishes or not cleaning up the mess after one of them has feasted on some virgins. Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are both brilliant in this. Rhys Darby also makes a very funny appearance as leader of a bunch of local werewolves and those are some of my favourite moments ("We're werewolves, not swearwolves").
