30-year old Christopher Nolan sets out a statement of intent for his future career with an intricately-crafted spin on a genre movie that will leave your brain in a knot. Guy Pearce plays Leonard, a man hunting his wife's murderer - inconvenienced only by his inability to form memories, which forces him to rely on notes he leaves for himself to know where he is and what he's doing in.
One is inevitably left agog at the deftness with which the two main strands of the film (one running forwards, the other in reverse chronology) are woven together, and also by the way the film still manages to be coherent the first time you watch it, even without recourse to aide memoires and flowcharts of your own. But the intellectual depth of the film is also hugely impressive, dealing with issues of memory, self-deception, existentialism and solipsism. Proves that Nolan doesn't need a huge budget and rafts of big-name stars to produce a brilliant movie.

I personally loved this movie. For me it had the perfect balance of magic, fun and danger as well as magical beasts. Whilst it doesn't strictly fit with the HP movies and books, it was a very enjoyable watch with seamless cgi. It also does an admirable job of explaining the complex storyline without giving everything away and leaving several unanswered questions.

Peter G. (247 KP) rated Monsters vs. Aliens (2009) in Movies

Very entertaining riff on Alien visitation movies of old such as ' _The day the Earth stood still_ ' and also plays on 'Attack of the 50ft Woman'
It's good clean fun with stand out moments and great voice talent from a brilliant cast, it's not the best animated movie out there, but the cast elevates it way above it's unfair mediocre rating!

Trish (4 KP) rated Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children in Books

Interesting concept. Its like a fantasy novel for children. Historical references were neat. Read an interview with the author and he used the pictures to build the story around them. Thus, they fit into the story perfectly. At times, they seemed forced upon the story though. Kept my attention and was pretty light reading. The movie version will be interesting also.

I love this adaptation of the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The casting for every character is pretty much spot-on, in my opinion. It honors the story, which is the most important part.
Also, I have to mention that this was the first movie I say James McAvoy in, and it made me a life-long fan. <3
