I enjoy using the app and seeing what other people think of films, books, etc but you cannot go back a page if you click on say a movie by mistake that you might be looking at under the discover tab, you then have to go back and start again clicking through the items. Also when writing a review or adding an item to the list you should be able to edit your review as you may think of something else a bit later or in some cases you may not have actually written something but wish to do so. You may not remember in four weeks time.

I’m not too sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t what this movie turned out to be. It had so much potential with a name like Ritual, and the setting being rich and endless. It’s also based off an H.P. Lovecraft character and therefore had the tools to really blow it out of the park. Instead, it was circles in the woods, a lot of predictable conversation and then ten minutes of super interesting monster time! I just really feel they could have done so much more with the tools they were using. Wanted a creep fest, got a snooze fest.

"Like Night of the Hunter, this is a movie that captures this uncanny, twilit feeling of childhood, one that’s full of wonder and possibility but also the dread of carrying the burden of a parent’s secrets. Of course here it’s inextricably linked to the Spanish Civil War and a reflection on the Franco era. But seeing El Sur for the first time, with very little knowledge of Spanish history or that Erice considers the film “incomplete,” I was still completely enraptured by it. I find the idea of a daughter discovering and living with her father’s hidden longing unbelievably powerful, and Erice and José Luis Alcaine’s imagery is unparalleled."

Awix (3310 KP) rated The Transporter (2002) in Movies

The Transporter (2002)
The Transporter (2002)
2002 | Action, Thriller
Uproariously silly action movie which launched Jason Statham's career as a leading man in this sort of thing. Brilliant fights and chase sequences are strung together by some frankly very suspect dialogue scenes, comprising a rather hackneyed plot. No-one involved appears to be acting in their first language, which is a bit bemusing considering Jason Statham is English and Matt Schulze is an American.

This is on one level a terrible pile of nonsense, but also superbly entertaining as an unintentional comedy and a genuinely proficient action film. If you're playing the Transporter drinking game, award yourself an extra swig every time the logo of a well-known beer named after a snake appears, as they appear to have sponsored the production quite extensively.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
1991 | Horror, Thriller

"I was tempted to replace this with Something Wild—along with Blue Velvet a key movie of the ’80s, when Demme was its finest mainstream director without a hit. But this is undeniably Demme’s greatest achievement—one of his only hits, and rumors persist that it was taken as a job. It contains maybe the most complexly realized heroine in a procedural and two of the most iconic performances in American movies. It seems Demme has been apologizing for its gore and violence ever since, but it’s a nearly perfect film while also a haunting reflection of the George H. W. Bush years in the same way The Coens’ No Country For Old Men seemed like a reflection of the waning years of his son’s presidency."

A 5 year old Jack wakes up on his birthday next to his mum. It is clear that their life isn't great as they are in a dark and dingey room which includes a bed, bath, sink, oven and TV. Jack's own bed is the bottom of a closet.
It is soon evident that they must be held captive, as every night when Jack is in bed some guy comes in and has sex with his mum, but also brings her and Jack items. Jack and his mum also have a daily ritual of screaming through the vents to the outside world, which as far as Jack is concerned is to get the attention of aliens.
Jack's mum soon comes to the conclusion that they can't live like that forever and tries to tell Jack that there is more to the world than room but he refuses to believe her, after a day of fending for himself though he begins to believe her and mum can finally put her plan to escape into action with Jack's help.
I suppose you're wondering how on earth a 5 year old can help with an escape plan? You'll have to watch and see, but it's very interesting how it unfolds. It's also interesting watching the aftermath and despite the movie being called room, it doesn't all take place in room, which I initially thought it would.
Jack does come across as quite obnoxious but given the circumstances it's understandable, and I liked that it showed how a child probably would react in this situation rather than sugar coat it like many movies would do. The child actor gives a very good performance as does the mother. It's probably not a movie I would watch again but entertaining enough to keep me interested for a one time watch.

Sick, twisted... Great
1. Martyrs. A sick depraved film, in other words, it was great! Those French bastards strike again! I love that it had an intro from the director apologizing and thanking you for watching his film. From where it begins to where it ends it one crazy fun filled adventure... About a girl, Lucie who escapes the clutches of an evil couple that likes to torture young women, from there she meets Anna, and become very close friends, 15 years pass, and Lucie has tracked down the couple who tortured her and well, you can guess... Lucie also hallucinates just a tad in the form of a woman who was also being held captive... From that point on things get just a little nuts, in a totally good way of course!! What a way to end the countdown, with a pretty sweet sick movie... Acting was superb, felt everything was real, as nasty as it was lol!! But if sick n twisted is your game, and I bet it is, check it out!!! Filmbufftim on FB.

Awix (3310 KP) rated Ant-Man (2015) in Movies

Jun 9, 2018 (Updated Jun 9, 2018)
Ant-Man (2015)
Ant-Man (2015)
2015 | Action, Comedy, Mystery
Long-in-the-works Marvel movie gets around lack of big names and (if we're totally honest) significance to the ongoing MCU meta-plot through sheer good humour, inventiveness, and charm. Loveable rogue gets recruited by curmudgeonly ex-superhero to take on his mantle as very tiny special operative Ant-Man. Possibly most famous for the fact that original writer-director Edgar Wright was fired from the movie, allegedly for refusing to stick with the Marvel house style - his influence over the movie is still very noticeable to the discerning, though.

Absolute originality probably isn't the movie's strong point (it is sort of vaguely reminiscent of various other movies in the series), but the caper-heist plot structure is at least a little bit different, as is the 'people get really tiny' schtick. Also, compared to the movies on either side of this one it's a relief to see something not in danger of buckling under its own weight. Doesn't take itself too seriously; piles of fun.

Sense and Sensibility (1995)
Sense and Sensibility (1995)
1995 | Comedy, Drama, Romance

"Emma Thompson’s Sense and Sensibility! I find it to be one of the most romantic movies, but also for me, so many times it’s about how the performance affects me, in terms of what I ended up taking away from it all – just dreaming and wishing and hoping that someday I could do work of that caliber. But I just found the movie to be sweeping and yet – even though taking place in another era– it was so timeless to me. And I remember that moment clear as a bell with Emma Thompson at the end of that movie when he comes running up, and she realizes that he’s there to see her, and it’s just one of the most beautiful acting moments I’ve ever seen. So I just love that movie, and I think Ang Lee is such a beautiful filmmaker and creates such beautiful cinematic images that are indelible, really."
