Suswatibasu (1701 KP) rated Uber in Apps
Nov 4, 2017 (Updated Nov 4, 2017)
The app itself is not bad, but it has a few technical issues including updating GPS locations. It usually takes a while to update, having to exit and re-enter the app for it to change.
Communicating with the drivers is a bit hit and miss as well. Sometimes they pick up the phone, a lot of times not - and waiting times increase while I attempt to hobble to the car despite asking them to wait in front. So it isn't without its faults - but I wouldn't change it otherwise.
Mekkin B. (122 KP) rated Sorcerer to the Crown (Sorcerer Royal #1) in Books
Sep 13, 2017
Zacharias Wythe charms as the stoic Sorcerer Royal and Prunella Gentleman, the snarky orphan with a troubling amount of magical talent, is easily his match. The relationship between the two has a Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet quality that still manages to feel fresh and unique.
Cho has crafted a wonderful fantasy world replete with interesting characters and intriguing mysteries, it's easy to see why this book gained a nomination for 2016's Locus Award for Best First Novel.
Awix (3310 KP) rated Unleashed (2005) in Movies
Apr 4, 2019
The plot is barking mad (not inappropriately for a film with the alternative title of Danny the Dog) and impossible to take seriously, but that's hardly new for a Besson film, nor necessarily a disincentive to see it. This one is lifted by genuinely good performances from Hoskins and Freeman, and extended sequences of Li beating the living daylights out of everyone in sight (at one point there's a kung fu fight in a toilet cubicle, which is surely a first). Not to be taken remotely seriously, but still highly entertaining.
Goldenarrow74 (10 KP) rated Ritual de lo Habitual by Jane's Addiction in Music
Feb 24, 2018
Grunge had yet to happen and the turgid, hair metal rock scene needed something to revitalise alternative music.
The alt-rock scene that also included FNM, NIN, RHCP etc refused to be pigeonholed into just one genre.
Perry Farrell was not only a great songwriter but also a tremendous showman - Electric onstage and difficult to take your eyes off.
From the instantly accessible, MTV-friendly Been Caught Stealing’ to the slowburning ‘Three Days’ which continues to sound better with every listen, this album is a must-have for anyone into guitar music.
While it never strays into noisy guitar for
the sake of it, it rocks when it needs to but it’s during the more melodic moments that showcases Jane’s sheer magnificence.
