Awix (3310 KP) rated Vertigo (1958) in Movies
Feb 23, 2018
Mesmerising, deeply unconventional thriller about obsession and identity; confused people back in 1958 but is now regularly cited as one of the best movies ever made (possibly with good reason). Cop (Stewart) is obliged to retire due to fear of heights; gets another gig as guardian angel over a troubled young woman (Novak), finds himself falling for her.
The thing about Vertigo is that not very much seems to be happening the first time you watch it, certainly compared to a movie like North by Northwest. But in terms of the structure of the script, which is constantly looping back, foreshadowing, and echoing itself, everything is going on. Great, brave performances from the leads; not afraid to go into some very dark places; technically brilliant (of course).

Never have I been more pissed at so many characters in my life. They're either unrealistically sexist or so fucking weak that they can't even stand up for themselves until something really bad happens. Also, I felt it should've ended at a certain point because after Angel found out the truth about Sydney, the whole ending with Sarah seemed out of nowhere. I have to read this book as research for one of my creative writing classes, and I really wanted to stab myself in the eyes because I hated this book so much. Like good God! Who thinks that making a guy so old-fashioned as "girls and guys can't be friends" is a good idea? Welcome to 2018, moron!

A good mix of both Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaimam
This story is about a demon and an angel trying to find the anti-christ and stop the apocalypse. It has a very similar style to all of Terry Pratchett's books. It is nice to read something written by him that isn't set in the discworld (no matter how much I love them).
It is full of the two authors dark humour and being set in England means that there are loads of little bits that are recognisable.
Some of my favourite parts are when they discribe certain aspects of the country that have been designed by demons to torture humans (like the M25!)
Thoroughly enjoyed this read.

David McK (3248 KP) rated Good Omens - Season 2 in TV

I was one of those who wandered how they would do a second season of a show based on a single book, when the entirety of that book had been covered in season one.
The answer, it turns out, is that Gaiman and Pratchett had ideas for a sequel, which nothing ever came off.
Gaiman is one of the showrunners here (as he was in season 1).
This, even more than that earlier season, concentrates on the pairing of the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, with lots of flashes of the two of them throughout the years since the Creation, and here trying to uncover just why the Archangel Gabriel has arrived at Aziraphale's bookshop with absolutely no memory at all.

Merissa (11805 KP) rated Interstellar Angel (Astral Heat #1) in Books
Sep 16, 2021 (Updated Jul 14, 2023)
INTERSTELLAR ANGEL is the first book in the Astral Heat series and is a slow-start, slow-burn reverse harem science fiction story.
The prologue starts with a character called Zorin being held in a cell. He escapes (with help) and disappears until the last part of the book, but not before kissing one of our main males senseless. Kaia has run away from home to escape the chains of being a princess - and I mean that literally. Only now she has been caught and things are never going to be the same for her.
There was a lot to this that didn't make sense to me - the whole cyber aspect of it, if I'm honest. I use a computer but I don't know all about the innards, and that's what it felt like. Once I skimmed over those parts, it got better.
There are some very steamy moments in this but, as Kaia says, no penetration. There is also a lot of back and forth, life-mates, mating pheromones, protective instincts, you name it. Overall, it was a good read that I enjoyed and have no hesitation in recommending.
Fair warning though - it does end on a cliffhanger so be prepared to wait to find out what happens next. The next book, Renegade Angel, is due for release in December.
** same worded review will appear elsewhere **
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Lee KM Pallatina (951 KP) rated Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992) in Movies

A movie you can really sink your teeth into
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a horror/comedy about a high school cheerleader who learns that it is her destiny to hunt vampires.
juggling being a student/cheerleader & Training to hunt & kill the undead proves to be a little more stressfull as the final hour draws closer.
A fun light hearted yet dark themed Classic.
The movie was a moderate success at the box office but garnered mixed reviews by critics.
taken in a different direction than writer Joss Whedon intended, five years later, he created the darker, more successful TV series of the same name.
directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui
starring Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, Rutger Hauer, Luke Perry, and Hilary Swank.

I knew it.
I've been moaning at Nora a lot of the way through this because she was being a bit selfish regarding Patch. I know she loves him and everything but he's an Angel! He can't fall for you without consequences!
As for the rest of the story, everything's up in the air now.
I so wasn't expecting that ending anyway, not the Patch thing the other thing--<spoiler>Rixon</spoiler>--and the thing about her dad.
The end has made me want to jump straight into Silence but I don't have Finale and if I continue with it now, I'll only have to wait a long time to finish it, so I'll leave it now and continue when I finally get my hands on the last book.
