Movie Critics (823 KP) rated Beauty and the Beast (2017) in Movies
Apr 14, 2017
Original rating: 3 out of 4

Excerpt:
This “Beauty and the Beast” isn’t predicated on starry-eyed romance or animal attraction, but the solace of mutual loss and understanding, which makes it all the sweeter. Although the Beast is an entirely digital creation, based in part on Jean Cocteau’s groundbreaking 1946 film, Stevens imbues his hauteur and fanged hostility with pathos and arch humor. Joining Heathcliff and Mr. Rochester as yet another handsome dude in a bad mood, Stevens’s Beast provides the right kind of foil for Watson’s spirited, courageous heroine, who in one of two seriously frightening sequences fights off a snarling pack of wolves. The blink-and-you’ll-miss-it meet-cute moment for two gay characters is part of this “Beauty and the Beast’s” larger sense of expansiveness, wherein exteriors fall away, inner essences come to the fore and true love ensues.
And what in this big, boffo, ball-gowned world could be wrong with that?

Andy K (10823 KP) rated Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) in Movies
Apr 27, 2019 (Updated Apr 27, 2019)
After a volcano spews hot lava and ash on the original Jurassic island, humanity is left with the choice whether to save the prehistoric beasts or let them become extinct again maybe as it was supposed to be.
One of John Hammond's original partners is involved in trying to relocate several species from the dying island to a new home where they can be free of tourists and left to live their lives out in peace. Of course evil animal poachers seeking to weaponize the ferocious beasts intervene and only Chris Pratt (overrated) and Bryce Dallas Howard (not sure if she wore high heels the entire film this time) are here to stop them.
Not enough new material here to keep the film exciting and fresh. The same people running, getting eaten, etc is present here and I was bored.
Some cool visuals during the first half with our heroes trying to escape the volcanic habitat were compelling, however, the second half was way too predictable and not very exciting.
This franchise should now become extinct.

The book seems to have two love stories.
Paul Smedley (141 KP) rated the PlayStation 4 version of Stardew Valley in Video Games

It’s a super chilled out game with the ability to craft, level up, build, farm and interact with NPCs in a variety of quests and side missions.
If you are a fan of games such as Harvest Moon, Terraria, Minecraft, Animal crossing, etc. then this is a must for your collection.
My only down point is the fact that the days don’t last long in game so if you are away from your house late at night and don’t get back in time, you pass out and lose some money; especially if you get carried away mining!
It’s got a hell of a lot to complete so it won’t be a game that you complete in a day, week or even a month.
It’s usually always on sale, particularly on the Playstation store so you’ll be able to get it for an amazing price.
Give it a try but be warned, once you get into the mechanics of the game, you SHALL be addicted!

Where I struggled was the style of writing. Pakhto and Farsi were used in the story, and I found it impossible to understand. Perhaps the end published book will have a glossary to refer to? Even the context where the language was used didn't help me. The family relationships and forms of address were complicates and I really couldn't keep track of who was who (could this be added into a glossary?). Finally, for me, the animal cruelty was pretty difficult to stomach.
Other readers may be able to see past this last point, and a glossary may well be added in the finished, published book, but I'm afraid this is just not for me personally.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book to read and review.
