Well, that was a bit of a strange movie.

A mixture of comedy and adventure, this is set after the 'monsterpocalypse' when the chemicals used to send rockets up to explode an asteroid heading to earth instead resulted in the mutation of cold-blooded animals.

So, giant man-eating frogs.

Giant man-eating ants/earthworms.

Giant spiders.

etc etc.

Think that bit on Perter Jackson's 'King Kong' where they are on the island, and all the giant creepy-crawlies ...

(Although, this, I have to say, is more PG-rated than that particular scene).

With the survivors in separate enclaves around the country, 20-something year old Joel decides to leave his underground bunker and travel across the surface to his girlfriends community just 80 miles away.

The result is an easy enough watch, that never really caught my attention all that much, despite the best efforts of the dog 'Boy'!

"I always wanted to get back to what we did with PiL [Publice Image Ltd], but I got caught up in other things. The Sex Pistols were back on the road and no regrets: those people are my mates. Then it was all the TV work, which I loved. I discovered that nature is not something to be scared of, and best of all, that animals seem to like me! They don’t want to put me on the menu.” Lydon reflects on his not-so-punk appearance on the reality TV show ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of here’ He continued: “But hearing this absolutely brilliant record, in particular Halleluhwah, which lasts an entire side, reminds me of what we were trying to do with PiL. Can is its own thing and so is PiL. The only way to file these records is alphabetically.”

"As a young girl growing up in northern Michigan, Estes felt most at home in the woods where she often heard wolves howling. Instead of scaring her, the animals’ cries comforted her in a way she was later able to express in this book. Wolves and women share many qualities: playfulness, strength, curiosity, bravery, they are adaptive, and each care deeply for their young. But both wolves and women have suffered a similar fate of being hounded, harassed, exhausted, marginalized, accused of being devious and of little value. How does one reconnect with our deepest, most true selves when today’s world demands us to conform to ridiculous expectations? Estes retells ancient myths and fairy tales from around the world and in doing so shines a light on a path which leads us back to our natural state — and help us restore the power we carry within us."
