Debbiereadsbook (1684 KP) rated Phoenix and His Dragon (Colorado Dragons #1) in Books
Jan 29, 2026
awesome start to a new series!
I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is the first in a new series by this author but there is a short prequel, Drake and His Dragon. You don't need to read that before this one, though.
I loved this. It pushes so many buttons for me, not least the dragon aspect.
I loved that Cole thought he was on his own. But He's not. Even if their meeting was not the best, Cole has Phoenix. And Cole has the Colorado Dragons ice hockey team on his side, he really did not realize. I loved that tey all stepped up to help Cole out of his father's clasp.
Granted, Phoenix is keeping secrets and when Cole finds ou, he lashes out, as he has always done. He does come good though. And Phoenix is really only looking out for his friend and his family.
I don't usually vocalise my feelings when I'm reading, but this book made me cry. When you get Phoenix's full history, it's hard reading. Cole's also. His male parental unit is a nasty piecce of work! I loved how Ignatius played him at his own game, and pulled the rug out from under him while lifting Cole to new heights.
It's emotional, it's got drama, it's got love, found family, hockey! I'm fast becoming an ice hockey fan, mostly because of books like this.
An awesome start to the series, and following books will have a lot to do to pace this one!

Jaime Lynch (18 KP) rated Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in Books
Jul 1, 2017
The Gateway Book to a Lifelong Addiction
I started reading the Harry Potter series while lifeguarding during a particularly rainy summer season. (I promise there were no people in the pool while I indulged) Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is a book that introduces you to Hogwarts and the magics of the wizarding world. It's not the best of the series, but that's okay. It gets better as you get more invested in the series. That being said, it is awesome to go back and re-read the first book to see all of the references that are made that relate to later events and people.
Alison Pink (7 KP) rated The Stolen Ones (Jessica Balzano & Kevin Byrne, #7) in Books
Jan 15, 2018
Wow!!! What an awesome book!! I had not read anything by this author before and I must say that winning an ARC of this book turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Montanari is truly a masterful storyteller. The book was dark and sinister but I was sucked in from the get go. The mystery kept me guessing until the very end which doesn't happen all that often to me with books in this genre. The best part is the story is believable despite some crazy unexpected twists and turns.
The two main characters, detectives Byrne and Jessica were interesting believable characters. They made the story what it is and didn't let it get too far over the top. I definitely look forward to reading more by this author in the future!

Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated The Art of Slip-Stitch Knitting in Books
Apr 27, 2018
I know very little about slip stitch. Looking through this book I was impressed. there were a lot of stitch patterns and stitches I’ve never heard of before.
Everything about this book was artistic and well designed. From the photography of the knitted items to the type face and layout of the text.
The patterns themselves were awesome. Normally when I look through a book I tend to like some or most of the patterns. This book, I like all of them. Not only were they elegant, interesting, and unique, some of them were really pushing the boundaries of what you can do with stitch patterns and construction.
This is definitely more of an advanced book. But if you’re looking for something new, exciting, stunning, and challenging, this is the book for you.

Dungeons, Dragons, Drama, Hysteria, and Mischievous Gay Energy
New and experienced Dungeons and Dragons players will find plenty here to keep them in fits of laughter. For anyone who thinks that D&D is just for nerds - prepare to be schooled.
Brilliant characters, with some of the oddest accents you've ever heard;an awesome (and handsome) dungeon master, who occasionally sounds strangely like Richard Ayoade; hopefully a great many story arcs to come; and drama and hilarity running as amok as the cast will have you binging the first episodes and then wondering what in Baphomet's name you can do for the week until the next installment of this wonder of podcastery drops into your list!

graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated Unleash the Night (Dark Hunter, #8; Were-Hunter, #2) in Books
Feb 15, 2019
This was a wonderful book! Ever since Wren was introduced I had been eagerly anticipating his addition (along with many more who we haven't heard from yet! grr! :P), and I was not disappointed! I really enjoyed the relationship between Wren and Maggie; their story was sweet and spicy. I did miss some of the Dark-Hunter aspects, especially Simi and Ash, but it's nice to have a break from the DH storyline every now and then. Especially when Ms. Kenyon has barely broken into the Were-Hunter part of her world. Anyway, as I said before (well, sorta), Wren and Maggie were great and in a way, they seemed more realistic than some of the other couples, more-so with Maggie. Another awesome book in this thrilling series! :)
