A great indie horror film
Ryan Kiser rocks!!!
Gory, disturbing and a helluva good time
I waited five years to see this movie, and it was totally worth it.
Jessica Cameron co-wrote and directed a worth wile addition to the horror genre.
It's hard to believe this was her first stab at directing. Pardon the pun folks, but stab is exactly what happens in this movie.
I had never heard of Ryan Kiser before this film, but he portrays an obsessed fan with psychotic gusto only equivalent to that of veteran horror actors.
Cameron, Dorff and the rest of the cast envelop them selves in their characters so much, and the camera work is so simple that it makes the disgusting game of Truth or Dare seem realistic and unstaged.
After reading the reviews for this splatterfest I can see how some people who are not horror hounds would be repulsed by this movie.
Myself, I brought an open mind and honestly didn't expect what I saw. But as a horror fanatic and self proclaimed horror movie GOD, I am in love with the concept of this film.
It brought obsession to a new height. It makes the viewer see that people can become so enthralled in other people's lives, that they can become obsessed with what they view.
Jessica Cameron deserves the spoils she received for her debut movie.
In this writers opinion this movie is the beginning of an amazing career for her as both a writer and director.
Big Studios take notice. This indie Queen is coming at you all with her nails out. I hope this is the first of many movie from her disturbed mind.
Buy this film people... Support the horror underground. You won't be disappointed.

The thing about Ellen Hopkins is she writes about the stuff that everyone knows happens, but nobody is willing to admit to. She gives emotion and reason to why people make the choices we do, and what they feel like in the middle of a messy hurtful situation. She is the opposite of happyland syndrome. She tells it how it is.
I had read a little bit of Hopkins's work before: I started Crank (When I say started I mean read the first few pages) and loved it, but I was busy and never got the chance to get into it. But I got an ARC of Triangles, so I sat down and read it—and after one page I was hooked.
If you've been reading my blog at all, you know I'm not a person who likes stories about love gone wrong and marriages failing and extramarital sex etc. because I'm a Christian, and a romantic, and a softie (read 'wimp'). But I went ahead and dove into this book, because I knew Hopkins is a good writer.
It surpassed my expectations. I should have expected her to be this awesome, since obviously she's pretty famous and everyone else figured it out before I did, but I really am blown away, not only by her blunt yet graceful storytelling, but by her nerve to tackle the stories nobody wants to tell: a dying child, a gay son, a pregnant teen, sexual disease, threesomes, a woman sleeping with her best friend's husband… it's all in here. Yet, it's not plot overkill. She made it work. Somehow.
Though, be warned. Since she does say it like it is, this book is not for the easily offended. But if you're willing to look past the content, there's a gem waiting for you about forgiveness, hope, and what love really means.
Content/recommendation: explicit sexual content, swearing. Ages 18+

What in God's Name is a hilarious novel about the would-be-destruction of the earth. God is tired of running Heaven Inc, and wants to open a restaurant, figure out his Rubrics Cube, and play golf instead. The rest of the angels are just as tired as he is. All except two: Craig and Eliza, who actually enjoy working in the Miracles Department. When they find out God is going to destroy the earth, they make a bet: They'll answer one of the "impossible" prayers that God has ignored over the past few months, and if they can do it, God will not destroy the world.
Eliza and Craig have no idea what they've gotten themselves into: Their job is to get two of the most socially awkward humans to kiss... since apparently they already like each other, neither of them is willing to make a move. On top of it all, Craig is pretty sure he's crushing on Eliza
I tore through this whole book in a matter of hours--though it felt like minutes. It's hilarious. With that in mind, I'm a hard person to offend. People who are easily offended by their faith/religion being mocked should not read this book... God is portrayed like a Frat boy, and he lets people into heaven only if they can skip a rock twelve times. Suffice to say it's not exactly orthodox.
But if you're in the mood for a fast, funny, slightly intense read (it gets tense there near the end!) this is for you!

Build and Play all out war
This game has a very special place in my heart and I wish it started getting produced again. This review is not just for the base game by the Heroscape system as a whole. To me it is a lost treasure that I still pay premium prices to collect. Heroscape is primarily a combat game with a point based army building system. But even before that, the players build a battlefield using the interlocking and stacking hex terrain features, there are tiles of lava, water and ice, there are castle sets, bridges and even a marvel set to add marvel characters. I cannot paint a picture, but just google "epic heroscape map" to see amazing battlefields people have made. Alright, so gameplay mechanics. The combat system is dice based using shields and hits and line of sight and height of target it important, where you can take cover behind objects and creatures and also gain height advantage. There are interactions between characters that buff and debuff allies and enemies and interaction with terrain types. There were 3 master sets, a castle set, a bridge set, lava set, ice set, marvel character set and multiple character expansion packs. The miniatures are prepainted. Heroscape was bought by Wizards of the Coast where they released one master set with a Dungeons and Dragons Theme and one wave of D&D character expansions. It was then discontinued. In 2016 Wizards released Magic: Arena of the planeswalkers which recycled the Heroscape rule set, terrain molds and almost all mechanics, but under the completely different Magic the Gathering Branding and with a fraction of the terrain. Arena of the planeswalkers was also discontinued. The cheapest way to try out the mechanics of this game is Arena of the planeswalkers which should be able to be sourced used locally for about the $15 range.

I picked this up off the library shelf for the title; I took it home for the description. Were-dragon thieves? Awesome. It turns out it's not that simple. For one, the were-dragons have lost the ability to transform over the years - the last dragon to transform was Sir Francis Drake, and the book is set in modern times, so, at least a couple hundred years have passed. And humans know the were-dragons exist! I suppose without the ability to transform, they're little more than rich celebrities with parlor tricks. (Immune to fire to certain temperatures, ability to breathe fire.) What humans don't know is how much the wyverns tend to steal to enrich their hoards. And that some of them can do limited magic.
We open on Sky, sixteen, rattling around her mansion, dealing with her now dysfunctional family of three brothers and their father. Her mother went missing not very long ago, during a heist. The kids have been told she's gone, she's alive, she's not coming back, and to drop the matter. Were-dragon society almost exiled all of them for whatever their mother got into, so they're all on thin ice. Sky, of course, is having none of this. When she stumbles on a lead for where her mother went, she pursues it, and learns all kinds of secrets.
The book was okay, I suppose. I was a little appalled at were-dragon society, and that the dragons just - bow to the authority of the Council. Dragons should have more spine. The heist part was pretty cool, with Sky and her friends figuring out how to take apart every layer of security piece by piece.
I don't know. It was a fluffy book, but not a feel-good book, and I just wasn't that enthused.

Marvel Has Done It Again

Talk about an emotional rollercoaster. This movie had my attention from beginning to end. It was just so well done. Dealing with the aftermath of the Decimation caused by Thanos and then the culmination of a huge battle, in fact the biggest battle I have seen on screen. It was amazing how they fit how each character dealt with the aftermath of everything. Yes the movie was 3 hours but as a geek...I didn't mind one bit. The only thing I didn't care for was how Thor was handling his misery. I thought it was taken too lightly. He drank a lot of beer and gained weight. He was trying to drink his misery away. I can understand feeling like it's your fault that Thanos killed everyone, but I just didn't like the angle. That is ONLY thing about this movie I didn't like. The way they got the Infinity Stones to undo what Thanos did was just awesome. At the beginning they find Thanos and he is in bad shape. To their dismay he told them he used the stones to destroy the stones. He had accomplished his purpose. Thor beheaded Thanos and they leave with no hope...that is until Antman, Scott Lang shows up. Eventually a reluctant Tony Stark and the rest of the team go down different time streams using Hank Pym's technology to get the Infinity Stones. The stones are recoverd by everyone but to the chagrin of the team...it was at the cost of Black Widows life. Meanwhile Thanos of a different timeline finds out what is going on and makes it to Avengers headquarters. Just before that a gauntlet is made and the Hulk uses it to bring everyone back. Then Thanos destroys Avengers headquarters with another battle ensuing. I will stop there because now you will witness the greatest on screen battle you have ever seen. Marvel...you have made me a happy man!

What the hell are you
#predatormovie ultimately is a huge let down, that being said it does have its moments of #fun & is worth seeing if your a #fan of the #franchise. My biggest problem with this film is that it just doesnt slow down at all. From the start action is so frantic that its jarring & you just dont have a chance at all to really see whats going on either. What made the #original #predator so #terrifying & effective was the quiet down time moments, the slow tension building & character building scenes so when we finally do see the alien its tense, unnerving, shocking & has huge impact. This latest instalment although copies alot from the original is void of everything that makes it so great. Its brainless, action packed, #silly & uses way to much crap/blurry cgi (making the hunter predator especially feel less threatening). For the first hour i wont lie i was entertained, its so #hilarious i was #laughing out loud, the actors are all great (except when forced to repeat lines from the original) & the #violence is awesome/grizzly, but then once we hit the second hour things dive bomb. Not only is the second half a complete mess but i grew #bored of the action too & wished we could just sit down with its characters more. #jacobtremblay & #trevanterhodes are so good here they are just both such fantastic actors anyway & really do light up & steal every scene they are in. @themcdave hit the nail on the head when he said to me "its a good action film but its not a good predator film" & i came out feeling the same. Oh boy & the last 5 minutes possibly contain my biggest #WTF moment of the year so far (without spoiling anyghing I really wish it was just a #xenomorph instead of what we did get). Having nun of it
#thenunmovie is a camp & #silly mainstream #horror movie that while not great its still an enjoyable & ok watch. After hating every single film so far in the #thecounjuring universe I was tempted to boycott #nun, but after seeing it now I can say its the best film in the franchise (thats still not saying much really). Its defiantly a #fun watch but I wouldn't call it a horror at all (Commercial horror these days is more action orientated & Nun is no different). Relying on big set pieces full of #jumpscares & lots going on these films should be put in a new genre called 'Action Horror' they are essentially the #transformers of horror films. Although there is some awesome #creepy imagery here & some neat practical effects Nun fails at creating a creepy/unnerving atmosphere & the over use on poor cgi at times fails to keep the film feeling grounded. Sets also while impressive lack that dirty, grimey, damp, old, worn & lived in look making then feel like... well a set from a film. Everything's to perfect & neat & even lighting feels unrealistic too. Ideas/cinematography are all stolen straight from other horror films eg #darioargento films, #theexorcist or #nosferatu & while ok they are nothing in comparison. Acting is forgettable, either with characters either being over or under acted by the cast & half way into the film plot seems to be neglected in favour of set piece after set piece. I feel #TheNun will please its target audience (teenage girls looking for jump scares that will most likely talk throughout all the story & character development parts). While far from a good film its an ok film to watch if your not in the mood for thinking & want to see a nun that looks like #marilynmanson running round screaming at people. #solo is a complete blast & possibly one of the biggest surprises of the year so far. I admit despite all the hate I was always looking forward to Solo (I cant stand #ronhoward as a director) it looked exciting, gritty & despite treading over old ground it looked #fun & unique. Im #happy to report Solo ticked all those boxes & with it at times being almost cringe/predictably #nostalgic it managed to do enough & have enough fresh ideas to stand on its own. Solo is visually great with sets costumes & characters all looking A1, locations feel vast, lived in & varied, costumes & creatures are well designed, cgi is great & camera work is really nice too. Its soundtrack feels fresh & the use of surround sound is awesome. #AldenEhrenreich did a really great job playing #harrisonford, he's really likable & did his best considering he's limited by years of character building that came before him. #paulbettany is also outstanding as is #donaldglover but sadly other cast members feel a bit flat in comparison but this could be down to the dialog/writing which at times can be really bad/bland. Set pieces are great & play out thoughtfully/intricately making them exhilarating & a joy to experience (bar one at involving a big creature which felt tacked on & lifeless). Theres a great sense of adventure here too & its really quite exhilarating to visit so many cool places & see so many cool things (it constantly feels fresh & never boring). Theres also a shocking amazing #cameo that I never saw coming & the film does leave itself open for a sequel that im already sold on.
