Who on Earth is Tom Baker?

WOW... Okay, Tom's life is very... unfortunate. And while I was interested, I realized I wanted more of the stories of his career and less about how he came to be. The first half of the book is his struggles with God in a religious upbringing, the third quarter is his struggles in military service. And while these stories are simultaneously heartbreaking and emotional, they are such a drag to read. It's not that he doesn't tell the story well, he does, injecting his trademark humor onto just about every page. But the tragic nature of the events counters that humor making it more gallows and inappropriate than anything. I SLOGGED through the first half. It does pick up some once he becomes an actor (and like The Doctor, Tom is a bit of a name dropper). Insightful and interesting, but I'm still not sure I have any idea who on Earth is Tom Baker...

Fans of the play will love this movie. They did a great job adapting this for a film.

The cast is especially amazing, esp Meryl Streep and my dream wife Anna Kendrick. However, while James um British talk show host that plays the Baker wasn't the worst choice, he kind of stuck out as mediocre compared to the other cast members. The singing from all cast members, James included, is all excellently done, all the actors performed their vocals live.

My only real beef with the movie is the complete removal of the narrator character and the missing song, "No More". While they also didnt include "Agony: Reprise," I liked the change they made to Rapunzel's story which would've recquired halfing the song or a complete rewrite. I'm good with that trade off. Plus I imagine the lyric "dwarves are very upsetting" might've proved for some to be indeed upsetting.

Hammer's sixth film with Dracula in the title was supposed to reboot the series from scratch, with a new actor in the title role; distributors insisted on Christopher Lee being brought back, which explains both the opening sequence in which Dracula is (somewhat bafflingly) resurrected, and the general sense of resignation in Lee's performance.

Script rambles, attempts to inject more gore and sex into the Hammer Dracula formula; director Baker doesn't seem to be really up for it, somehow. Some elements from the original novel reappear, also a few from previous Hammer Draculas. Patrick Troughton (looking like Liam Gallagher's granddad) is good value as Dracula's long-suffering handyman Klove. Some of the younger cast would go on to have decent careers; nothing to suggest that here, though. The rubber bat puppet from this film would go on to have no career whatsoever, which is not at all surprising. All really kind of perfunctory and mechanical.
