This is book 2 in The Dragon’s Bidding series, and it cannot be read as a stand-alone. You NEED to read A Hero For an Empire before this one and I would recommend you read them back to back. It’s been 4 years since I read the first one, and I think that’s why I feel as I do about this one. I did not have time to reread book one before reading this one!
I found this a much more difficult read, to follow. It’s heavy on the technical stuff and at times I struggled to keep up.
It moves fast, and even though I had to slow down my reading (which is usually a good thing!) I still struggled a bit.
Fitz and Wolf’s relationship is intense in book one, and that flows over into this one. That fact, and the fact we meet Cypher here, are what made me able to finish this book.
Cypher takes over Wolf’s body, his muscles and his bones but not his mind. He can see what Cypher is doing and is helpless to stop it. He has to trust his love for Fitz, Ari and the others in his life will tide him through and THEY will get to the bottom of it all.
It is HEAVY on the fighting/violence scale. While I enjoyed that in book one, it was a not so much here.
Things are still not where Wolf, Fitz and Ari want them to be, and I expect it may take more than one more book to make it so.
I have Cypher’s book to read next, and given what happens here, I’m looking forward to that.

When Wyatt brings his daughter to Cole, who agrees to this all out of curiosity, Cole is immediately protective of the plain girl. The best way I can explain it is lust at first sight. For some reason, Cole feels protective of Brianna and cannot wait to sexually awaken her....and then share her with his head of security, Tyler Cannon. Cole isn't gay, but he is consumed with thoughts of sharing her with his lifelong friend. What I found most disturbing is that the day after Cole pops Brianna's cherry (also the first day they met), he gets his wish of sharing his new charge. How he does it actually infuriates me. After Brianna's first time, she falls asleep in Cole's bed, only to wake blindfolded and tied to the bed so Tyler can do whatever he wants with her. If I was in the same position, I would furious, not turned on.
And so their sexual activities continue and Cole obtains custody of Brianna's birthday. Cole asks Brianna to marry him, Wyatt becomes furious, Cole shuts him down. Pretty simple yet insane plot line.
On a lighter note, the erotic scenes were fantastic although I could do without the dirty talk. For some reason, talking during sex is always more exciting when you are actually doing the deed. Reading about it is...well awkward.
An entertaining novel despite plot.

This is book two in the Somerton Security series, and I STRONGLY recommend that you read book one, Defenseless, first. Because it will give you a better picture of Ethan, and his team. And because, I mean, FIVE star read people!
And again, this is a 5 star read!
Ethan Somerton, head of Somerton Security needs to find out where a certain member of his team is still being held. He needs insider information, and that information comes not from the younger Vega sister, but the elder, Natalia. Natalia had been doing her uncle's bidding to keep her sister safe. But Ethan promises things, things she never thought she could have. She just needs to get her sister out, and Ethan's team member free, first.
I loved that, right from the start, Natalia had Ethan pegged. She KNEW he wasn't who he was supposed to be! Loved that Ethan, very quickly, realised that Natalia was the one to watch, not her sister. Loved that Ana Maria surprised EVERYONE! Me included!
You don't get the full picture, of Natalia's mother and father's murder by her uncle, not all in one go. And it kinda threw me off balance, once we DID get it all! Love being kept on my toes!
The team member is STILL missing but they are closing in on him and fast. I have a feeling once THAT story comes, it's going to be little bit different to what the team might be expecting. Especially after what they find. Vague, I know, but no spoilers from me!
I have no idea who might be next, since one idea I had was totally wrong, but hey, I don't really care. I WANT to read it, because I need to know what's going to happen!
An excellent follow up!
