I never thought I'd be that girl. The one that would sacrifice myself, but I did.For him, for love. Now I'm in Hell, and O'Donnell is King of this Underworld.Revenge was my mission, now Vengeance is my goal.Warning: 18+ This is a Dark RH, and contains strong language and certain triggers

I’d go with 3.5 stars on this one as it just lacked that bit of action I was expecting when rescuing Shadow! I expected it to just have more oomph! But overall I did enjoy the book!

Blade.

The Daywalker.

The half human/half vampire hybrid, waging a one-man war on the vampire underground.

And still to officially enter the MCU, with this film pre-dating even the creation of that cinematic universe by a good 10 years or so, and very much a product of its time: lots of leather and shades!

It also stars a pre-prison for tax evasion Wesley Snipes as the titular character, and is quite a bit gorier than the MCU movies tend to be.

I remember, also, thinking at the time just how much of a letdown La Magra, the Blood God, made out to be the 'big bad' was as well ...

2 DNFS

My favourite book of the month is The Frangitelli Mirror by G.R. Thomas this was an ARC and Brilliant!
Also Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney was really good too!

My least favourite is The Blood of Elves by Andrzej Sapkowski I expected more.

My DNFS were not as high this month I just couldn’t get on with so many and I’m a great believer in not reading something just for the sake of it.

Deep Red (aka Profondo rosso) is a thriller/slasher from Italian writer/director Dario Argento.
When Marcus Daly (David Hemmings) witnesses the murder of the women living in the flat below him he finds himself in a race to find the murderer before he becomes their next victim. The films killer follows a lot of what would become familiar tropes in slasher films, the killer is rarely seen and when they are seen they are covered u, they use a number of different ways to kill their victims and they have a habit of sneaking around. There isn't necessarily a a lot of blood from the kills, that is to say blood is sprayed around but when there is blood it is filmed in such a way that you can't miss it, in fact they eye is drawn to it.
Speaking of eyes there are a lot of them, Dario Argento has his own style of filming, he uses filters and strange camera angles and, in Deep Red a lot of closeups on eyes, sometimes just for scene transitions.
As well as being a Slasher, Deep Red is a mystery, as the film progresses Marcus the protagonist find clues as to the identity of the killer giving the viewer the chance to work out who it is as well. But there are red herrings and a lot of things that don't necessarily make sense. There is a clockwork boy, used only one by the killer, there is a creepy girl with a possibly mad farther, two facts that really don't affect the story.
As I said, Deep Red contains a lot of the Slasher tropes but it predates most of them, even beating Halloween by three years and so you can see that it has a big influence on the modern (well 80's so not so modern now) slashers.
The down side is that Deep Red is slow, there is a lot of talking, although contained in this are some clues as to the killers identity and the level of violence isn't quite as much as some of the more modern films, it does however beat some of it's slasher predecessors such as Psycho.
Over all Deep Red is a good film, slightly more mystery than slasher but with enough kills to keep a slasher fan happy. The story does plod along at is own pace but over all an enjoyable film.

If Only King Kong Had Died
Contains spoilers, click to show
Just when you thought King Kong died when he was shot off the Empire State Building he is resurrected courtesy of open heart surgery conducted by Linda Hamilton. However, he is still going to die unless he receives a blood transfusion. Fortunately, Lady Kong is discovered in Borneo. Job done? Of course not. These films are terrible adverts for the human race as the sole reaction to discovering such beautiful beasts such as Mr and Mrs Kong is to try and kill them with a barrage of absolutely terrible special effects.

Only someone with a heart of ice would fail to be moved when Kong picks up the missus and carries her out of the holding facility a la An Officer and a Gentleman. I don't know why the producers didn't go for an outsize Marine Airman's formal attire and throw in the strains of Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes - only they will be able to tell you why they didn't.

This will be quite possibly the most enjoyable bad movie you will ever see. Ultimately, like with all the Kong movies it is tinged with sadness as we all know what happens to the big fella in the end - open heart surgery and blood transfusions not withstanding of course. Don't be surprised if you hear the patter of really massive feet at the end in what is an unintentionally hilarious yet genuinely uplifting finale.
