I really enjoyed this dark take on Captain Hook’s beginning. Henry’s version of Hook’s origin story fit very well with what we know about Peter. I can now see, even from the Disney version, how he might not have been what we thought he was, a boy who never wanted to grow up, only to stay small and play forever.
Hook was once a regular boy, by the name of Jamie, who became the focus of Peter Pans attention. He was the first Lost Boy, the first child Peter convinced to run off to a magic island to live and never grow up. Jamie loved Peter and wanted to be his best friend forever. He believed he was Peter’s favorite, his confidant.
But, what happens when Jamie starts to see the friend he adores, and thought loved him, isn’t what he believed he was? What happens if Peter turns out to be cruel and heartless, and tries to rip everything Jamie cares about away from him in order to keep Jamie’s attention only on him?
Well, Jamie becomes the villain in Peter’s story.

Not knowing what to classify this movie as has been difficult. It has many aspects and genres attached to it. From horror to action to drama and nail biting thrills, Snowpiercer is an absolute ride that takes its viewer on a twisted and winded road through ice caps and snow drifts, culminating with a catastrophic turn of events that left me wondering what the fuck could happen next.
I recognized a few of the foreign to me actors. Seeing Tilda Swinton in an almost comedic role was awesome. Chris Evans left no inclination that he had ever played the wholesome Captain America with this part. Admiting to canibalism, while shedding tears of regret and shame, a truly awesome performance.
This film keeps it coming through its length, but there were moments of boredom about half way through, hence the 9 rating.
If you're looking for something thrilling to kill an afternoon with, I highly recommend Snowpiercer.

It’s been a year since Irene Steele received the news that her husband Russ was killed in a helicopter crash. The most shocking part: it occurred on the island of St. John, where he apparently lived a double life with another family. Now Irene and her two grown sons are back on the island, trying to move on—and learn more about the life Russ led there.
I really am loving this series. I worried for naught this book wouldn’t be as captivating as the first! It was, per usual, a delicious Hilderbrand read. I love these characters, especially stalwart Irene. And Huck, oh Huck, the tough yet sweet fishing captain. She just captures them all so perfectly!
This book is really quite fascinating—almost a mystery. There’s plenty of good relationship drama, too and lots of curiosity about Russ’ business dealings. It’s so easy to get caught up in everyone’s lives.
This is a fun, dramatic, and engaging read. You can read it out of order, but pick up Winter in Paradise first (if you haven’t already) for the full experience!

Now... I know Herge himself chose Spielberg as the only director for Tintin before Herge passed away.
Instead of choosing to go with one adventure, or even two that were sequels/two-parts, the decision was made to mash up The Crab with the Golden Claws, and the Secret of the Unicorn. Tintin originally met Captain Haddock in the Crab with the Golden Claws (1941), not the Secret of the Unicorn (1943). Needless to say, I was completely confused. Tintin and Haddock were already friends, and Tintin bought the Unicorn as a gift... It was just bizarre to me. Why and how was that decision made? Yes, there were tons of homages to the adventures of Tintin overall, but the plot just felt all over the place.
I also did not dig the animation/mo-cap, it was very off-putting and distracting. Thank god the technology was improved in Ready Player One.
I think I was expecting too much. I wouldn't be remotely interested in a sequel for this. Maybe Spielberg will try it again? It would work better as a television series anyway, you've got 23 complete adventures, the stories need another chance.

Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet creator Gerry Anderson turned down Stanley Kubrick's offer of the chance to do the model effects for 2001: A Space Odyssey, but jumped at the chance to do his own space adventure film a couple of years later. The good news is that all the model-making and visual-effects skill of the operation that Anderson had put together by the late 1960s is on display in this movie. The bad news is that Anderson and his wife wrote much of the script themselves, resulting in a plodding movie which focuses on all the wrong details instead of telling a compelling story.
The problem is that the basic idea - space mission discovers a replica counter-Earth - isn't properly developed, and the characters take nearly an hour to get there, let alone work out where they've ended up. The generally dour tone and rambling metaphysics would become more prominent in future Anderson shows (much of the supporting cast of this film turn up playing regular roles in UFO), but this first effort with live actors is lumpy and frustrating to watch.
