Erika (17788 KP) rated Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) in Movies

A New Hope is the first movie I remember watching that wasn't animated. It was the first video tape my parents ever bought. It's my favorite out of all of the Star Wars films, and a great introduction to the world of Star Wars. It's got everything: Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin, young, attractive Harrison Ford, and bad ass Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia.

80s baby
This is one of those movies you quote w your siblings every night out as adults. Any fan of The Simpsons early years and grew up with movies like, "Big," "Dream Team" and the "Major League" movies will appreciate the hijinks and comedy from the likes of Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher, Corey Feldmam and SO many others.

Actually quite sad reading it post-death
This is almost a bittersweet memoir about the great Carrie Fisher who battled mental health issues, substance abuse, and being brought up in a slightly dysfunctional family. It is witty, snarky and sarcastic despite all the upheavals. It begins with her experience with electroshock therapy and her subsequent loss of memories. The book is also short and filled with interesting images from her life, so it's a treat to read.

Awesome
Not being a massive wars fan I tagged along with my better half not expecting too much. It's only the 2nd star wars film I've seen. The 1st was rogue one I didn't find that too enthusiastic to get me into the franchise..... This one has definetly changed that idea.
What a film seeing Carrie Fisher for the last time is heartwrenching and beautiful.
I'm officially a a wars fan and now look forward to seeing the others!

“I had never been Princess Leia before and now I would be her forever. I would never not be Princess Leia. I had no idea how profoundly true that was and how long forever was.”
Carrie found these diaries shortly before she died and formed them into a book. To be honest, I would have liked less about the affair between her and Harrison Ford - she didn’t seem to say much anyway, even though it took up most of the book. I wanted more about the movies and the other actors. Ah well. I’ll bet Harrison Ford wasn’t too impressed though.
And there’s no denying that Carrie Fisher could write. One of those books that as soon as you’ve started, you’ve already finished (this is a good thing!).

Surprisingly good, intense beyond belief
My face at the end of this film was like being hit by a car! With a stellar cast, fantastic acting, and a storyline that is absolutely gasp-worthy, it is a great set up for the next film in the Star Wars saga. Felicity Jones is superb as the leading lady, totally understated, and totally kickass. The action is incredible, and I'm pleased to say there isn't any sign of Ja Ja Binks anywhere. As it's also the last appearance of Carrie Fisher, it's almost a homage to her life.

For a memoir, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. While I’m not a huge fan of memoirs, and a particular fan of Carrie Fisher, I am a fan of Star Wars and strong female role models.
I’d never read any of Fisher’s work before this and was delighted with her sense of humor.
She really does just focus on her life leading up to landing the role of Princess Leia and on the time during and just after filming. She does touch a bit on how the role has continued to impact her life experiences towards the end.

Many people have been split over this movie. I am a fan of the original trilogy and I loved this one did I not understand why like was the way he was at first yes but I found I can understand why he is the way he was. It was sad to see carrie Fisher for the last time as princess Leia not sure how they are going to do the next movie without her. I have to say I wasn't sure about the porgs but going myself wanting everything that they made. The movie has a few issues but as a whole I really enjoyed it!
