B (62 KP) rated The Canterbury Tales in Books
Oct 13, 2018
I read this book in preparation for teaching my 7th graders and was extremely pleased. I remember reading parts of the original while at uni and feeling absolutely bored as I had to translate the Middle English before making any sense of it. McCaughrean's adaptation, while I'm not sure how accurate, is extremely enjoyable. I especially like the stories told by the Knight and the Wife of Bath. I recommend this text to anyone who has ever wanted to read the classic book but just doesn't have the time and patience to suffer through translation.

Flawless!
Reminded me a lot of the music from Moulin Rouge which I also loved. I love the combination of classic melodies with a modern twist. A day after I watched the film and I'm still humming all the songs and downloaded a few of them.
This is Me is amazing and I also love Never Enough. Should've won the Oscar.
The songs fit into the story so well as well. It never felt like they were out of place or awkward. They married the story flawlessly.

Such a beautiful rounding of the 3 seasons of Penny Dreadful. To finish with Vanessa and Ethan's scene may have made my eyes leak! And to see that the past of the Monster entwined so deeply with Vanessa was a great added depth and completely unexpected. I adored this season and am currently rewatching for my 5th time. For any lover of classic horror literature, or doomed romance, or the thrill of supernatural I would recommend in a heart beat!
David McK (3734 KP) rated Around the World in 80 Days in Books

Jules Verne's classic which, I have to say, I could not help but think of the 80's cartoon while reading.
In case you've been living in a cave: late 19th century (1870s, I think) adventure, in which Phileas (or Willie, in the cartoon) Fogg makes a bet that he can travel around the world in 80 days - it's all there in the title! - accompanied by his valet Passepartout.
Set aside the colonialism of the time, the (sometimes) cringe-worthy racial stereotypes, and just enjoy the travel! Mind, there's no hot-air balloons involved ...

LeftSideCut (3776 KP) rated Toy Story (1995) in Movies

I'm not sure what needs to be said that hasn't already been said.
Toy Story is a classic, from start to finish. All these years later, it's still holds up as one of Pixar's finest, and the first film in one of the best trilogies of all time.
The animation, the voice cast, the music - it's hard to fault anything.
Every character, from Woody and Buzz, to Sid and the toy aliens, are well realised, and it quickly becomes clear just how much you care about a group of animated toys.

Acting, what is acting?
The story of Snow White is a classic, it's been told many times yet they still managed to mess that up.
What was the accent Kristen Stewart was doing? I don't know what it was, but it was bad anyway.
Chris Hemsworth is in it which is pretty much why I watched it, he's alright but again, his accent isn't the best.
Ravena keeping snow white all that time in a cell, why though? Ugh so much wrong I can't actually list everything.

Peter G. (247 KP) rated Hellraiser (1987) in Movies

The Lament Configuration, that little box of pain and misfortune along with the cenobites had me at hello back in the day when this was released as it satisfied my horror fix and was certified X rated, which could be seen as a little heavy handed nowadays.
This film explores many subjects including sadism and sex and Clive Barker interweaves these wonderfully with gore and creepiness and pinhead the leader of the cenobites became a cult character that helped spawn many sequels, although I hear they never reach the heights of this classic.

A Pleasant Surprise!
This film is an excellent adaptation of Stephen King's classic horror novel. As most know, this is not the first adaptation, but certainly the better of the two so far (hopefully Chapter Two will do the same).
While we all loved Tim Curry's portrayal of Pennywise the Clown, the original TV movie lacked depth and had several irritating plot holes. Splitting the story into two parts was an excellent choice, and has given moviegoers the chance to experience all IT has to offer.

Meh
I caved and watched the remake. I regret it. Thre acting and cinematography were fine. The story was just ok. They changed enough ti make it slightly different and added some stuff that was unnecessary for the storyline. Sad part is, this could've been a whole different movie with those added parts. There was potential to have created something new. Instead, they tried to rehash a classic horror film to make money on. The original was great and should've been left alone. Overall, this one is not worth a watch.

Watching reruns on the WWE network WWE main rival during the Monday night wars when wcw nitro was beating raw every Monday night due to the popularity of the new world order and Hollywood Hulk Hogan but over time it got stale and repetitive and silly due to stars egos eventually wcw was brought up by WWE and no more nitro which was a shame. Still classic 90s wrestling nwo for life
