Sarah (7798 KP) rated Stephen King's 'Thinner' (1996) in Movies

Stephen King's 'Thinner' (1996)
Stephen King's 'Thinner' (1996)
1996 | Horror
Very 90s with fairly good effects
I'l start by saying this is one of the few Stephen King novels I haven't read yet, so for once I can't judge it on the book.

As horror/supernatural films go, it isn't bad. It's very 90s, both in clothing and style which is obviously a little dated now. That said, the physical effects are very good even now and back in 1996 I'm sure they were amazing. The story itself is an interesting one, I just don't feel it's very well executed in parts. It drags a little and some of the acting is very cheesy and over the top. Still for a 90s film it isn't bad, I'm just interested to see how it compares to the book.

Some of Herring's best work
This radio-style sketch show turned podcast sees Herring and a cast of his long time friends/collaborators team up to perform sketches covering the issues of the day.
Moments of brilliance when a mistake is not edited out and becomes a running joke.
The fact that Herring wrote an hour of new sketch material each week is testament to his dedication and quality, but also leads to some of the best comedy as he approaches breaking point.
I do feel for him when he puts so much effort into something that makes him no money, potentially at the cost of other projects which may have suffered and cost him an income.

it is a lovely journal. It has 99 different lists to fill, the topics are taken from everyday life and the variety is very wide. From “Things you think are cute” to “Clothing that feels the most “you” ” The year has been a little grim, so a reminder of what makes me happy is quite handy. The journal is nice and colourful and filled with very fun and adorable illustrations. 🙂

So, to conclude, “99 things I want to do” is still on my wish list, but this journal is a fun reminder of the best things in life. I recommend to anyone who struggles to find joy in life, it might serve as a reminder that everything is not as bad as we think.

"I like them, because they were just that. Dres [Andre Dres Titus] is actually a friend of mine. I'll call him, I want you to tell him what we're doing... [He makes a call on his phone, but there's no answer]. Anyway, I was a wolf in sheep's clothing; I could just relate to that. They looked so unassuming, but they were the first to represent that you could talk about bitches and ho's - stuff that the other groups didn't. And Dres is one of the most underrated MC's ever. He's great, he can really rap man. For that to be their debut album… I just loved 'Flavor Of The Month'. The album doesn't get the love it deserves at all. Hopefully people can go and check it out for themselves, because it's dope."

After marrying Claude, Blanche quickly settled into her role as Mistress of the Ritz, dressing in only the
most fashionable clothing, befriending the elite and living in a beautiful suite at the hotel. But now the Nazis have taken over Paris and the Ritz has become their headquarters. Claude and Blanche now spend their days catering to and rubbing elbows with their conquerors, and their nights doing their part for the resistance. Living in such close quarters with the enemy Blanche finds a false sense of security, and grows more reckless as she becomes more restless.

A story of switching perspectives, this one is different in that it stays in a tight timeline, between a married couple instead of strangers. I really enjoyed this book and was delighted to find that Claude and Blanche were real people.

Charley joins a book club in the hope that making friends with the town’s elite will drum up business for her clothing store. She finds that she isn’t really fitting in with the Agathas, as the members are known, but sticks with it anyway. It isn’t long, however, before murder victims start turning up arranged just like the victims in the novels that the book club is reading. Charley manages to use her status as a member of the club to convince a detective to let her help with the investigation, but puts her own life in danger in the process.

This is a fun start to a new series with a great main character – cozy fans will love it!

I was not expecting to like this film at all, I only went to see it for something to do. I'm not a huge Transformers fan, they've all been the same, except for that last one, it was just awful. Most of the Transformers films are filled with overlong sequences with whatever female character running around in very little clothing.

I was pleasantly surprised, this was essentially an 80s buddy movie. It had a great soundtrack and I've been listening to it on repeat for the past few days. The plot was fairly simple and predictable, but it was a joy to watch and I was entertained throughout. Hailee Steinfeld was a compelling lead and her character was realistic, which I really liked. Jorge Lendeborg Jr (Memo) was also really amusing, and one of my favorite characters.

Funny and curent
I liked this book. In a nutshell, the protagonist wakes up one day and he is a girl. I guess that the reader has just to accept that because there is no indication as to whether Bill was actually a girl in the first place or if he actually physically changed. Fine explores gender inequality in her book as Bill is faced with a variety of obstacles that force him to see the way that girls are treated. I particularly enjoyed the emphasis on the pink dress and the impracticality of wearing such an item of clothing. I also liked the way that Bill reacts to the school bully who wolf whistles at him.
This book is a short read with lovely illustrations and rather funny.

There really are some good deals that you wouldn't find anywhere else. (1 more)
There is a huge variety (vacations, jewelry, events, concerts, clothing, etc.)
Some of the fine print for events and packages can get really confusing. (1 more)
There are a lot of exclusions on deals so trying to plan something can get impossible sometimes.
Great deals with confusing fine print
I really do love Groupon, and I have gotten a lot of good deals off of it (I paid only $25 for a Boudoir photoshoot that would have been over $200, I saved about $20 on an outing to Phipps Conservatory, and many more.) Really the only annoyance I have with it is that the fine print and learning how to properly use your Groupon at the venue can get VERY confusing sometimes. Other than that, it is a great idea and I will keep using it in the future!

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)
2017 | Action, Adventure, Comedy
I was not expecting much out of this new iteration of Jumanji. Jumanji scared the crap out of me when I was a kid (I ran out of the theater crying, and my mom had to convince me to watch the end to see that it ended up alright. I was an 8 year old wimp). Anyway, I think it varied enough from the original to not be a complete knock off. The cast was hilarious together, and Jack Black did amazingly with his character. I love watching anything with Karen Gillian. Shout out to the scriptwriters for pointing out how ridiculous it is for movies/video games to put females in skimpy clothing in adventure settings. I feel like this movie was made specifically for the people that were kids when the first Jumanji came out. Overall, I loved it, and will definitely be seeing it for a 3rd time.
