Kiernan Shipka recommended The Shining (1980) in Movies (curated)

The Shining (1980)
The Shining (1980)
1980 | Horror

"I think that The Shining is probably my favorite horror movie just because it’s a smart film, but at the same token it’s so chilling, and there’s so much to dig into. I mean, I could get myself into two-hour-long hauls just looking at conspiracy theories about it on the internet."

The Parallax View (1974)
The Parallax View (1974)
1974 | Classics, Drama, Mystery

"Here’s a movie with a political conspiracy plot that’s all too real. Warren Beatty stars in this elliptical thriller, playing a reporter who insinuates himself into a murderously effective multi-national corporation. Startling, eccentric, and a scary-close approximation of the world we actually live in today, this film continues to stoke the twin fires of paranoia and mistrust."

Not as enjoyable as the first book in the series. The PoV is now with Shaun, a much more irritating, geeky protagonist than his sister. There is a conspiracy running through the plot, which is exposed very slowly over far too many pages. Again, the action scenes are quite exciting but they fit into an overall piece which is somewhat disappointing.

A good young cast, including a very young Paul Walker. It's a decent conspiracy thriller about a secret society that picks the best students from the top universities. After a friends apparent suicide on campus though, is there more to this elite group. It's entertaining, and has a strong cast line up, locations and action. If you like thrillers check this out.

I am very excited as the next book in the Spy Girl series by Jillian Dodd gets released this month. I preordered it ages ago and sort of forgot but just realised that it is being released on my birthday!!
If you haven’t read the series then I fully recommend you start as it has plenty of mystery, drama, suspense, conspiracy and a little romance (:

A conspiracy theorist and comic book geeks wet dream of a movie, not only bags of fun to spot the nods and winks but at times laugh out loud funny as Seth Rogan's voice is somehow ideal for Paul and with Frost & Pegg as co stars this really should have been the triple as part of the Cornetto trilogy over 'The Worlds End' by a country mile.

The final Diagnosis: Murder novel finds Dr. Mark Sloan's world crumbling around him when a conspiracy targets his friends. Slow going at the start, but lays crucial groundwork for the fast paced rest of the novel. I loved it and sorry to see the characters fade into the sunset again.
