A rookie member of an elite team of commandos, Rama is instructed to hang back while his comrades-in-arms go ahead with their mission to take down a brutal crime lord called Tama. However, the team's cover is blown, and Tama offers sanctuary to every criminal in his high-rise apartment block in exchange for the cops' heads. Its about surviving, living and making it to tomorrow. Rama must make him and his team through the building, through the bad guys and hopelly survive to see tomorrow and successed the mission.

However, the majority of the film is built around showing you the relationship between the two cops, them riding around, sharing jokes, introducing girlfriends, responding to calls etc. This makes it a bit aimless and I was wondering when the real story was going to start. When it does it's over in a flash which makes it seem like the main crux of the story is an afterthought.
I liked the film and it did give a good insight into the danger the police face on a daily basis but I would've liked less padding out and more time spent on the drug cartel story.

This isn't for the faint hearted, and those who are very religious may not like it much either. God has done a bunk and The Preacher, who has been possessed by Genesis, has gone looking for him. We meet corrupt, ineffective cops, gangsters, a Saint of Killers, angels, serial killers, and the most dysfunctional family I've ever had the pleasure to read about!! And all in volume one! What on earth will they have to offer us in volume two? Id better get saving my pennies to buy it!

After a Detroit police's officer's friend is murdered, he relocates himself to Beverly Hills, California to investigate only to discover law enforcement operates under quite different principles out there.
Alhough Eddie Murphy had made both "48 Hours" & "Trading Places" before this film was released in 1984, this one was definitely his breakout hit.
His crass, foul demeanor juxtaposed against the prim and proper by-the-book procedureness of the CA cops lent itself to many hilarious and memorable moments. His partners Judge Reinhold and John Ashton worked extremely well with Murphy who had really come into his own as a leading man comic actor for this role.
Still one of my all-time favorite comedies.
