Patrick Stewart adds his usual RSC gravitas, and the scenes between him and Shatner are great fun. As Commander Data getting a dose of feelings from his ’emotion chip’, Brent Spiner is also great. The rest of the TNG crew get a mixed amount of air time, with the lovely Marina Sirtis putting in a great performance – particularly during the crash scene – but with Gates McFadden getting little other than an early bath!
The movie’s not without its issues though. Some the scenes – particularly one in ‘stellar cartography – could do with a lot of tightening up. This was director David Carson’s feature debut, after some previous Trek TV experience, and a more experienced movie director might have achieved an even better outcome.

It did take me a couple of chapters to get fully into this book, mainly because I felt like I was trying to remember all the characters and their relationships to each other. But once I got that sorted out, I was hooked. There are plenty of complications for Dot to deal with, and I enjoyed seeing how she dealt with everything. She is strong. There are plenty of great characters, including a potential love interest. That time in history is also brought to life, including the changes society was going through. I already can’t wait to see these characters again. If you are looking for a fun historical mystery, you’ll be glad you picked up this one.

This story is well-written with a steady pace. It will give you an emotional connection as you empathise with the characters and situations they find themselves in.
This is a fantastic debut novel that has definitely left me wanting more. A brilliant story that grips you from start to finish, you will need to know more about Sadie and Kian. Although this story comes to a satisfying conclusion, it also leads you perfectly into the next book which is due out later this year that I have GOT to read. Highly Recommended.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

If that description sounds a little wacky, that’s because it is. But this book fully embraces it, and is better as a result. I was laughing the entire way through the book at the banter between the characters. The characters are strong and relatable if a bit broad to make the comedy work. I did feel the plot got a little convoluted as we neared the end, but that was my only complaint. Everything made sense in the end, and I was drawn in the entire time I was reading. If you are looking for laughs with your mystery, you’ll be happy you picked up this series debut.
