"I’m a big fan of David Lean. Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia, and Dr. Zhivago take up three of my favorites. This can go for all three of Lean’s films, because they’re all very similar. They all have very strong characters, very developed characters. He has a unique visual style; it’s very important for the way the movie looks. There are stories about how he’d sit in the desert for half a day, just waiting for the clouds to be right before he’d start filming. You can imagine what a producer would be doing during this. [Smiles] So I love films that have strong visual styles, and all of those films have very unique styles."

A fast read. Set in the desert there are illusions to Colonization, the main Character Harry, she prefers her nickname to her actual name, is from a place called Home (yes original I know) which resembles if not England than America. She goes to Damar (MiddleEast/ North Africa) to be with her brother after their father dies. and although they never say her age I'd place her closer to 15 than 20. Harry is that awkward wild child that grows into her own. She is a strong female character that is humble and while out of her depth still tries to maintain a type of dignity.

Nominated for the 1989 John W. Campbell Award, this book tells the story of Rohan, who has become the new prince of the desert. Rohan seeks to bring peace to his world of divided nations.




This was loaned to me from a friend and I’m so glad she did! The world and character building was just fantastic. Despite it having a very intricate story it was done so well and flowed nicely. Reminds me of those fantasy stories that were so popular in the 80s so it was nice to read a book full of fantasy and adventure. Looking forward to reading more by this author!
