Vegemite Girl (284 KP) rated Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) in Movies

Character background (3 more)
Great crew new and old
Great sfx
Fits in with the other films
Star Wars!
Love the Star Wars films! The flawless mix of the old universe with the new technology was cunning edge material, bringing back old friends, characters, and props back where they belong. The Rogue One crew was Amazing. Glad they explained everyone's background story in the beginning. The build up to the final fight scene on Scarif was perfection. The final fight scene itself, well cmon did you really think you'd be let down? Almost wished that the fight scenes were a little more brutal but considering the company is owned by Disney the move to keep it kid friendly while still giving the older more mature audience a show is respected.

Pongo and Missis are settling into their new married life with their newly wed pets - Mr. and Mrs. Dearly. Missis is expecting puppies, but these puppies have caught the eye of their neighbor and Mrs. Dearly's schoolmate Cruella de Vil. What will she do to get her hands on the puppies?
This is the book that inspired the Disney animation classic, and it is a lot of fun. The basic story is the same, but there are lots of changes along the way, plus more about the de Vil family. The humor is much more subtle than the film, but it still made me laugh and smile. Definitely a charming, fun read.

Songs lacked something (1 more)
Unnecessary order of events changes
Sorely Disappointed
I really wanted to enjoy this. I loved the stage show and adore the animation. From the onset this let me down. I hung on until the Prince Ali song, because if this couldn't be done right what could? Not only was a bit miffed at the fact that things were not in the order of the other 2 versions (both done by Disney so I don't understand why you would fix something that isn't broken), but the songs lacked something: flare, brightness, the thing that gives me the urge to sing and jig along. The was constant throughout the film, it seemed to lack colour (not actually colour but it seemed a bit dull). Sorely disappointed.

Oh, Disney have deigned to finally release another Marvel movie: clearly we are all expected in the cinema. Nth MCU entry is a solid, mid-table variation on the formula; does the usual thing of taking interesting, distinctive talents like Johansson, Pugh, and Shortland and using them to produce something very much of a muchness with previous instalments.
Considering it's Johansson's name above the title, she's less prominent than you might expect - but the supporting cast are such good value it's hard to quibble with this (it's also quite clear that one of the film's functions is to establish Florence Pugh as 'Black Widow 2' for future Marvel projects). Good action, interestingly gritty tone, not very much in the way of plot, decent jokes - reliably entertaining stuff from the world's most consistent franchise production line.

This was FUN! Not 5-star fun, but still fun nonetheless! Christopher Hastings clearly had a good time writing this cute li;l gem! And while I could go on and on how Hastings' handling of all the G0tG member 9which was A+ for sure!), I feel the need to shower Flaviano Armentaro with a more than hearty helping of paise for his adorable art (rendered in an "old skool" Disney-esque style)! Everything about this series says perfect for a lazy afternoon with some Stash Asian pear green tea and a dog in your lap!
Oh, and I challenge you to NOT hear the late David Bowie's voice when you read the Adminstrator's dialogue!
Now, scoot, go and read it, summer is nearly here, and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is already at the movies!

Claudia Gray is by far, one of the best authors that Disney hired to write new canon Star Wars novels. I love Gray's characterization of Leia, and I've been waiting for a Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan novel for ages.
We see the beginning of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's relationship, and the conflict within it. In this novel, it was revealed that Qui-Gon WAS offered a position of Jedi Master. Qui-Gon doesn't accept right away, because it would mean that he couldn't have a padawan. They both go on what is thought to be their last mission together.
Obviously, you know how it shakes out, because Obi-Wan is Qui-Gon's padawan in Phantom Menace, but it's still an interesting and deeper look into both characters.

Hearing recently that, due to the Covid-19 situation that has swept the world and (as of 2020) has caused the majority of affected countries to go into full-on Lockdown mode, the planned cinema release of Kenneth Branagh's film of the same name would instead be released on their streaming platform Disney+, I thought I would go back and re-read the novel for the first time in about a decade or so.
And, I have to say, while it's enjoyable enough, it's also pretty forgettable, which might explain why I never read any of the sequels. I'd be interested, however, in how this translates to a different medium and - if, as planned - there are any other films based on those sequels, I may hunt them out.
