Skye (14 KP) rated The Cuckoo's Calling in Books

A good detective mystery.
The Cuckoo's Calling is a great first book in the Cormoran Strike series. I greatly enjoyed the mystery and putting together the clues. The book was a little long winded and dragged in areas with quite a few red herrings. However, book and it's mystery are good enough to keep you hooked throught the parts that drag. This book is definately for those who love a good detective mystery, but not so much for those who like thrillers. I personally will be reading the following books in the series based on this debute.

Meh...
It was ok... but there was a large section of the beginning and middle that were dragged out. In my opinion they could have easily made the film an hour or more shorter OR they would have chucked the important parts of this (which show the links - no spoilers) into another film... not sure that it needed to be dragged across 2 hours.
That sounds bad I know, I didn't HATE it by any means... the end was good, flowed well and didn't drag, just a shame about the rest is all.
Apologies if any super fan is offended by this, but it is only my opinion.

Short and Satirical
I really enjoyed this podcast from the Onion. In this, we are listening to "OPR" which styled itself very much like something you would hear on NPR, complete with a fake pledge break about halfway through. I found it by mistake when I looking for a new True Crime podcast to listen to. I was glad I did. The satirical tones were pretty good, and while I generally believe you can't take satire too far, this did have some gags that were a bit much or seemed to drag on to me. Overall, it was well done and very much worth a listen!

Colors of Immortality by J.M. Muller
Four Stars
This is my first story by this author and I was not disappointed. It was unique and captivating. The story gives you a new twist. The main character Daniel is an average teen going through more than he should. You feel how relatable his character is. Just a teen with the worst kind of luck. I enjoyed the story and how the author unfolded the story. It didn’t drag or jump around confusing the reader. The details the author paint with words gave you the feeling that you were right there experiencing the same thing in that moment.
