Lake Placid (1999)
Lake Placid (1999)
1999 | Action, Comedy, Horror
Lake Placid has a lot going for it. Great creature effects, snappy pacing, and Betty White being an absolute savage, more so than the giant fuck-off crocodile that is eating everyone.
The whole cast is great actually. Bridget Fonda and Bill Pullman are likable enough leads, even if they're generically molded to specifically fit this kind of film. Oliver Platt and Brendon Gleeson are incredibly entertaining supports and definitely make the movie more fun that it would be otherwise.
The legendary Stan Winston's effects work is top tier, and honestly, the flashes of CGI haven't aged too badly when all is said and done.

Lake Placid is certainly a product of its time, but it's a relic worth remembering. A unabashed, on-the-nose, 90s creature feature that did the double monster fake out before The Meg made it cool, and it's kind of glorious in its own special way.

Charlie's Farm (2014)
Charlie's Farm (2014)

Run of the mill Slasher
I had high hopes after hearing good reviews for this. Unfortunately it's pretty standard low budget slasher stuff. For a short film it's slow to get going and then just goes through the motions to an abrupt ending. The man playing Charlie is a beast to make Kane Hodder look small. The gore effects are pretty good. Feels very similar to the Hatchet films.

Looking dated now
A cult classic and for the time I can see why. However if watching it for the first time now, it looks very dated and the effects quite poor. Still it has its gory moments, a rather simple story and it could do with the cenobites being in the film a bit more. It did launch a whole load of sequels, 7 altogether?!

Trueley cool
We all at one time or anothe think we are living in an alternate universe. This movie story kinds of makes us believe that is possible. The cinematography makes the movie even more enjoyable with its effects and camera work. The actors who were chosen for the film were perfect and the story dosent disappoint. Follow the white rabbit if you want to go for a ride.
