Despite having 90% less Jack Black (in physical form, he still provides the voice for ventriloquist dummy Slappy), and a complete change of cast, I actually enjoyed this a lot more than the first movie. Better paced, with a more fun cast, Goosebumps 2 takes its time relishing in the creepiness that is Slappy, the ventriloquists dummy. Having him create havoc within a family environment before he unleashes the rest of his Halloween gang on the town. Took my daughter and nephew to see this and they loved it. Great fun.

"It’s a piece that Messiaen wrote when he was in a concentration camp. It’s very spiritual, and that’s one of the things that’s so interesting about it. The fact that he was in such a terrible environment and could create music of such beauty is pretty remarkable. I’m a big fan of Messiaen for his use of textures and colors. He’s like a lot of film composers in that you can really see his music; he creates a landscape of sound and uses unusual tones and instruments to tell a story."

The Hughes brothers make quite an impactful debut with this realistically powerful and violently graphic story.
I found similarities between this and Carlito's Way in that it's a story about changing one's life no matter how bad it was before things get out of hand and time runs out for you.
The gang violence is excessive and the story line shows that growing up in this environment makes it very difficult to escape from.
It's one of the better gang related movies alongside Boyz n The Hood and has a strong message.

I think this book has a little bit for everyone. The main character Leila has a whole lot going on. She has grown up moving from foster home to foster home. She has just been adopted, which she is struggling with. She has one of the more common forms of depression, seasonal affective disorder. She hears voices in her head calling out for help. Mixed in with her troubles is her love for the environment. Overall it is a well written book, and I enjoyed reading it. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first I have read in this series but it is certainly not the last. I thought this was going to be another cliche romance story involving a female wronged by a man for a stupid reason and a man tired of meaningless sex. Honestly it would have been if the author wasn’t such a good storyteller. I enjoyed both the characters and environment. Their love story was a delight, reading their journey of learning what they need rather than what they think they need.

A brilliant film in so many ways!! It is so simple with barely any dialogue, but it doesn't need it you can tell what is going on by the actions and expressions can say more than a thousands words with a film like this. It's cute, funny and smart and carries a message about the environment. Technically the level of detail in the animation is amazing and set new standards for all animations. There are slight influences from Short circuit in the design of Wall-e and 2001: A Space Odyssey as well later in the film. Do not miss this film!!

"Between Opening Night and A Woman Under the Influence, Cassavetes. I still dream, to this day, of having an experience. I thought the borderline guys are the modern version of this, of creating a really intimate, truly intimate environment, without any kind of producers with creative control, or any kind of desire of a specific distribution, but to just make stories that you want to make because they are close to you and personal and interesting and character-driven. Gena Rowlands, to me, is so amazing to watch. That’s something I discovered more in my early 20s, Cassavetes movies.#"

"when the “F*ck you, I won’t do what you tell me” comes in. I used to love jumping around in the mosh pit. I still do. My parents used to freak out about me going to festivals, but it’s a (mostly) friendly and supportive environment. The majority of people are there because they love music, and they want to love the music with other people who love music. You feel a real intense connection with the band and the music when you’re jumping around and your heart is pumping, wondering if you might fall over."

"I feel the need. The need... for speed!"

"This is what in call a target rich environment"

"Son, your ego is writing cheques your body can't cash"

1980s action classic (that I was all of 7 when it was released) starring a then up and coming (and young!) Tom Cruise as Maverick, the hotshot pilot who gets a shot at Top Gun: the military training school for the top 1% of naval pilots.

This has a great cast (Michael Ironside, Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, Tom Cruise himself) alongside some great aerial battles, but does drag in bits.

Recycled Science by Tammy Enz and Jodi Lyn Wheeler-Toppen is a book about recycling. The book aims to reuse common household items to become useful items such as lava lamps, flashlights and speakers. The book is filled with excellent pictures during the different stages of the experiment.

This book contains some interesting science projects. The book is geared toward upper elementary or middle school students; however, it is important that the projects are completed with adult supervision because of the potentially dangerous items required. These projects should be completed at home or outside as they would not work in a traditional classroom environment.
