"This was really important to me as a teenager. I was 15 and my friend put these headphones on me - I think I've talked about this in other interviews. It's embarrassing because I always say the same thing. But anyway he put these headphones on me and he had Live-Evil on his Walkman, and it just blew my mind. It was this culmination of wild instruments. It was just the funkiness, the wildness - it was all so beautiful. There was crazy trumpet on top of funky bass. I had never heard Miles Davis before so it was a crazy thing to hear for the first time. It really inspired my sense of exploration. I was listening to avant-garde classical music - which I never listen to anymore - and I was really interested in dissonance and wildness. So this seemed to be about letting yourself go and not worrying about, or being restricted by, style."

The blurb is very accurate for this book and it gives you all you need to know about it. Bill is paired up with a nasty man who everyone hates and the whole book is about him trying to figure out who his coworker really is and why he is so evil. Does he figure that out? Not really. The only character who had some sort of personality in this book was Bill, all the other characters for me were quite plain and not interesting. I am not a big fan of philosophy, I can digest it if it is well incorporated into the story, but in this case, it was an obvious transition to the philosophical parts and it just doesn’t work for me. So to conclude, for me this mixture of philosophy, crime, religion, supernatural and very detailed descriptions of trees and saws don’t work together, but if you into such topics, you might enjoy it.

Sarah J Maas knows how to create a badass! Selina is definitely a strong, capable, gritty, independent woman with no need for a man (or Batwing). I thoroughly enjoyed Catwoman through Maas' eyes - I probably should have read the other DC books (and I still might), but I couldn't wait to delve into SJM's mind once again. Reading about the "villain", making her into a relatable person with a sympathetic history, was especially interesting. I have never personally read any hero comics and, though I've watched several Batman movies, I certainly wouldn't call myself a fanatic - but this was a new experience in which I have no regrets! The story had action (lots of girl power, good versus evil, butt-whipping action), it had a hint of romance (which kept my romantic heart aflutter) and definitely had some feels to go along with it. Glad I chose something so different from my normal read!
