Disturbing vision of the near future
Finally got around to watching this series after seeing very high reviews for it. I haven't read the book and didn't know anything about the story beforehand. It's an interesting if dark and disturbing vision of western society being taken back a couple of hundred years. I did find some of the mid season episodes a bit slow and less dramatic at times. Overall though an excellent series.

Bring out the tissues.
This movie has had an excellent sense of dialogue and is shot beautifully. This little details that make each person their own, and indeed in each of the dog's storylines, add to a full experience. Definetly a movie to bring the tissues to- trust me, you'll need them.

Awesomeness
A subject that had such a bad impact on so many lives was sad. In respect to the Cast and Crew, they have done an excellent job on this I was Captivated with the storyline and felt myself being directed to sympathise with the Madoffs at one point. great performance from all actors and also for Robert De Niro pulling off one hell of an Act.

In [The Other Side of the Island] the author[Allegra Goodman] gives us a very interesting take on our possible future. The Corporation and Earth Mother are building the Enclosure over the (now flooded) Earth to protect the people. The question is at what cost does this protection come and what are you willing to sacrifice?
The book was an excellent read and as the author intended left me with questions. I will be highly recommending this book to my students.

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Last Man Out: The Story of the Springhill Mine Disaster in Books

This is a compelling story of miners who were trapped underground. In [Last Man Out] [Melissa Fay Greene] does an excellent job of capturing the emotions of those trapped as well as the families above ground. She also connects the political and economic climate of the time by telling the story of how these Canadian miners ended up connected to Georgia's fight for tourist dollars and caught experiencing segregation first hand. This is an emotional and well told story on many levels.

If you're a Mythology fan, this is an excellent book
When you enter the world through Shadow's eyes, you go from something simple like being recently released from prison to something much more explosive (discovering the world is much more complicated than you thought. All in all, it is a great fiction for someone that likes drabs of mythology, intricate character development, and throw backs of history.

One of the best reads I've read this year
Caraval was one of my favorite reads so far this year. It was very different from what I usually read, and I'm glad I found it. I love reading about whole new places that aren't part of our world. Stephanie Garber is excellent at descriptive passages of scenery. Her characters help the reader to immerse themselves in her book. Truly magical to read and imagine.

This is one of those books that start slow and slowly builds pulling you in a little more each chapter. Some don’t like slow books but if you give it the chance it’s an excellent series. This first book was great and each book in her series gets better and better. I couldn’t put them down and I’ve re read this series a few times now while waiting for the next book to come out.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Kick-Ass (2010) in Movies

Excellent
I see what the hype is all about!! When I saw a few trailers this looked liked an odd teen-comedy to me?! After finally watching it, I can say it blends elements of Watchmen, Kill Bill, and Superbad. Quite violent and bloody for a film with a strong dose of comedy. It has some great action scenes, a very cool car and a fine soundtrack too! This film does what it says on the cover, it Kicks-Ass!!
