Burt wants YOU to have his baby!
When a man decides that he wants a son but no wife, he looks for a surrogate to carry his child. Not as easy as he thought it would be, he finds a woman who is willing to help out. But as they get to know each other, life and love takes them down a road they never expected. For a film made in the early 80's (1981), most of the jokes and story plot is somewhat dated. The excellent cast (Burt Reynolds and Beverly D'Angelo) is a big highlight of the film. For many of those individuals who grew up watching movies in the early 80's and are fans of the cast will be drawn to the film. Parents and Parents-to-be will most likely understand the inside jokes. If your looking for a real good laugh, join Burt and Beverly as they prepare for parenthood in this early 80's jem...Paternity!!!

A definite 5 star read for me and one of my books of 2023 so far ... an absolute cracker!!

I read a lot of crime and psychological thrillers and the odd horror book and it takes a lot to get me going but Sam Holland most definitely got me going with The Twenty. Oh my word!! Why? I hear you ask.

Excellent and interesting characters ... check.
Excellent serial killer ... check.
Gripping story line ... check.
Fast pace ... check.
Twists and turns ... check.
Gruesome scenes that give you the chills ... check.
Tension and suspense in spades ... check.

What more is there to be said? Oh yes, this might be book 2 but don't let that put you off, it can easily be read as a standalone but I would strongly suggest you read book 1, The Echo Man, it's also a cracker!!

Highly recommended to those of you who enjoy a dark, gritty and grisly crime thriller ... you won't go far wrong with Sam Holland and I must thank HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of the brilliant The Twenty.

I can't wait to see what comes next.

A great addition to what is fast becoming a great series and whilst this can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading the first so you get the most out of this and also because it's an excellent read.

Like the first in the series, there is a lot to like about The Silent Dead - the characters, the plot, the twists, the back-stories, the writing style, the pacing - pretty much everything really!

Jackie Cooke is an excellent character; battling with a boss who clearly doesn't like her very much and a soon-to-be ex-husband who's moved on to pastures younger and left her with a new baby and twin boys and having to rely on her mum more than either of them would like all whilst trying to find a heinous murderer who is targeting single mums.

From the very first to the very last word, this book had me hooked and thanks must go to Bookouture and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of The Silent Dead and I am very much looking forward to the next in the series.

Great take on an Urban Myth
A really excellent read. Being a fan of King, Herbert, Masterton, Barker etc, I do like a good horror and this almost ticks all the boxes for me. The idea behind the story is genius and sets its basis on the Jack the Ripper myth. Now imagine that a boy witnessed him murder, followed him, got caught by him, kidnapped by him and taken to America, with me so far? Now also imagine said boy decides to track down this killer and that is basically what the book is about. With it being set in the eighteen hundreds it makes clever use of the fact that there were no computers to help him, no internet to search, no mobile telephone to aid him. This is one boy (at the start) and his quest to track down and kill a killer. The book has more than this to offer though. The best way i can describe it is The Hardy Boys meets Around the World in 80 days :) Worth a read and definitely a different take on the whole Jack the Ripper myth :)

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook which, although a work of fiction, is based on the true stories of women secret agents during World War II.

As you can imagine, there is an abundance of tension as the Resistance and SOE (Special Operations Executive) undertake their dangerous missions with the ever present threat of being discovered by the Gestapo.

The main character of Marianne is excellent and such a strong character as, in fact, are the rest of the cast. What I particularly liked is that the central focus is on the female protagonists and it depicted their bravery, commitment and sense of duty excellently.

The story, as you can imagine given the subject matter, is intense but riveting and compelling and I cannot praise the narrator enough - what an excellent job Sofia Zervudachi has done; there are quite a lot of characters, both male and female, and she made each one unique.

This is the first in a series and I very much look forward to finding out what happens next and I must give my thanks to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to and share my thoughts of The Silence Before Dawn.

Willow has been a silent Protector of a Wraith colony, hiding them from the sight of everyone - those that would help and those that harm. Malik is Mastyr of the Ashleaf Realm, trying to protect everyone, even with another Mastyr stirring up trouble. Marghetta once more makes her presence known, and Malik and Willow need to find the strength to protect the colony, as well as the heart of the Nine Realms itself.

An excellent addition to The Blood Rose series, Malik is another Mastyr that fights the thought of having a Blood Rose, due to some reason or other. This time though, Willow is also against it, as she feels that her Protector duties must come first.

This couple is hot and sweet and takes the whole thing remarkably well, which made for excellent reading. Well-written, and with no editing or grammatical errors that I could see, I would definitely recommend this book.

"That scene"...
Worth 1100 pages!
As always, Stephen King is able to take an abstract concept and instil it with the purest kind of terror. The characterisation of these young children is really solid and only gets stronger as he distils the essence of their personalities in their adult selves. In the strangest way, it would still be an excellent novel without Pennywise, but the looming threat of this ethereal beast just adds to the mood.

Great Sequel
Aliens, being the long standing sequel set 57 years later certainly gets the action going right away. Sigourney Weaver plays the character fantastic and James Cameron directs the film in his frenetic style. Love the mechs! The acting for the supporting cast isn't stellar but for science fiction it's workable. Clearly one of my more favorite movies. The score by James Horner was composed quickly but effectively. This gives us one of the best action cues of all time.

An Interesting Role for Matt Damon
I quite enjoyed this film. It was fast paced and an interesting story (nothing like being told you're going to die, really lights a fire under your ass lol). The visuals were beautiful and I didn't expect Jodie Foster in such a harsh role so that was different. Similar to a few other movies brought out in 2013 this also plays on the societal 'class' system, overall an excellent film.

Okay there is no doubt about it...Tina Fey is hilarious! This book was such an easy, enjoyable read! I found myself laughing at something on pretty much every single page. The good thing about this though is that the jokes didn't feel "forced." They fit perfectly with the flow of the story. The book did bounce around a bit, but it was easy to follow & didn't take away from the story itself. I'm not normally a biography/autobiography fan, but this really was an excellent read. I wish I'd read it sooner!
