C. B. B. (3 KP) rated Trials of Passion: Crimes in the Name of Love and Madness in Books
Jul 24, 2017
Trials of Passion
Trials of Passion is a thoroughly fascinating book that explores the insanity defense over time through the lens of four different crimes if passion. The authors expertise shines throughout. The effect of societal attitudes to gender and class and madness are fully explored and laid out. The primary flaw is that sometimes the writing is a bit clumsy.
The follow-on to Steelheart sees us (eventually) move city and become familiar with a new hierarchy of superheroes. I would have liked more exploration of the aftermath of Steelheart's defeat and the chaos that ensued before the search for Firefight begins.
The supers' weaknesses start to seem a little bit of a reach at times with no real tangible logic behind why they would be.
Again, some of the dialogue is a bit B-Movie and the characters too geeky/annoying.

Gisell Middleton (189 KP) rated The Mother-in-Law in Books

This novel is truly amazing. The interpersonal relationships are detailed and vivid. The characters are extremely realistic and relatable. The plot is unique and the treatment of common situations in unconventional and unexpected ways is terrific. To me, the best part, is the exploration of pre-conceived notions of how one should feel and act, and how through time, shared experiences and personal growth, that changes and evolves. I loved it so much I will give a copy to my mother-in-law.

Excellent horror board game that really suckers you into the game with great illustrations and exploration of the haunted house. It will pass the time away nicely on a dark evening with your friends.
Its engaging and challenging too so as you play you will be challenging them little grey cells in your head.
If your into board games definitely consider having this in your collection.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2185 KP) rated Deadly Shoals (Wiki Coffin Mysteries #4) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Wiki Coffin and the American Exploration Expedition have reached the southern tip of South America, where they get involved in a case where a man was sold a ship, but then it was stolen from him. Then a dead body turns up. This book seemed to be slow moving, but many of the random events played a part in the climax.
