Netflix horror drama, that more than owes a debt to the strikingly-familiar 'A Quiet Place': again, we have creatures that hunt by sound (here, of the winged variety that swarm their victim), a strong focus on a family group, and a deaf girl at the centre of it all.

While critics seem to prefer 'A Quiet Place', I actually found this to be the slightly better of the two: only slightly, mind, as neither were great (in my book).

A few unresolved questions

Sank without trace

This low budget film seemed ok from the trailer. A perilous situation thriller a bit like Fall on Netflix but this time under the sea as a diver becomes trapped in a remote location. The drama and suspense just ran out of steam quite early on or just short of ideas. Some flash backs about the family set up left more questions than answers. Ok if nothing else is on.

Tragic family drama disguised in apocalyptic genre

I spent at least three quarters of this book getting irritated by the protagonist's whiny outlook, however, I was sympathetic by the end when he faces his own demons and realisation.

It's like a drama wrapped in an end of the world scenario, so I was relieved that it avoided any of the ridiculous zombie / outbreak type of plot. It was mostly realistic, analysing how people react differently to extreme situations, apart from the fact a man with zero running skills could manage to run 450 miles in total let alone 20 miles within the first day.

And there were some great characters including old man Australian Harvey and female soldier Grimes, who blasted any stereotypes out of the water.

My Precious Gem

This is Adam Sandler's best performace of his whole career, thats saying alot because personally i dont like him as a actor and hate his comedy, but i like his drama roles because their are so different from his comedy roles. His drama roles are not with his best friends and just not taking a anethor vaction/road trip.

The Plot: A charismatic jeweler makes a high-stakes bet that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime. In a precarious high-wire act, he must balance business, family and adversaries on all sides in pursuit of the ultimate win.

The whole cast in this movie are excellent and fantasic and outstanding.

A must watch if you havent seen it yet.
