If you've never heard of Emma Koehler, then you know nothing about the beer industry in San Antonio Texas. But even if that subject matter doesn't interest you, Emma should, because she had both a fascinating and tragic life. Camille Di Maio does a lovely job of taking little to no information about this real-life personality and turning it into a biographical, historical, women's fiction novel. Incredibly underrated movie with some of its roots in multilayered films such as Pulp Fiction.
It's rather clever multi viewpoints and clever editing reveals just that bit more info when seeing the story unfold from another characters standpoint, it's always busy and never has a dull moment which saves it from being just another clone and the young and energetic cast inject an urgency into the story.
It's a shame all of them slipped into obscurity shortly afterwards as all showed much talent and potential to have a decent career, that's Hollywood!

In a world without disease, without hunger and without death Scythes are the only ones who are able and granted to keep the population under control.
Two teenagers become a scythe's apprentice and neither if them want the job, but a situation comes about where one of them will die if they don't win against the other.
I really enjoyed this dystopian fiction. The concept was brilliant. The character development subtle yet effective. I was engrossed every step of the way. I cannot wait to read the next installment!
