Merissa (13585 KP) rated Fighting Faete (Beyond The Veil #5) in Books
Nov 20, 2023
Fighting Faete is the fifth book in the Beyond The Veil series, and this series shows no signs of slacking. Each story is wonderful as a standalone, but together, they are brilliant. Kat is the Beta, and as such she knows very few men that are more dominant than her, and even less that she would like to mate with. She pits herself against bigger, tougher opponents, just to see if she will find someone more dominant. What she doesn't know is she already has her mates, and they are JUST as dominant. Kat needs to figure out how to have a relationship WITH them, and they need to figure out how to deal with someone as strong and sassy as Kat is.
This story is a welcome addition to the series. I've wanted Kat's story ever since she ran from Aeron and Alak. Before they get together is laugh-out-loud funny, but once they get together, the sparks fly even more. Well written, and with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow, Fighting Faete is an action-packed story, with highs and lows and surprises. The pacing is smooth, with no jarring at any time. A great addition to the series, and highly recommended by me.

Merissa (13585 KP) rated Fighting the Lure (Fighting for Love) in Books
Jan 19, 2024 (Updated Jan 19, 2024)
FIGHTING THE LURE is part of the multi-author Fighting for Love series, and I am in love and want more!
Sam left home ten years ago, leaving her parents and younger sister behind. When she tried to contact Nina, she was shut down. So Sam disappeared out of their lives, leaving a younger Ames wondering where her crush had gone. Time moves on and Ames moves to a new city and a new gym, and wouldn't you just know it...
Hot and intense - I loved every word, every thought, and every scene. The connection between Ames and Sam is instantaneous. Sparks fly, my friend, think fireworks. BUT it wasn't all about getting hot and heavy. There was so much more to these two. They connected on every level, not just the physical.
So many characters that I enjoyed reading about, and I'm really hoping Brooks and Emmit have their own stories. I may just have to check out the other books in this series! I also hope Nina gets her HEA! I think she deserves one after being lied to for all these years. Plus, she lives so far away from Ames now! 😄
A great read that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Another jewel in Katherine McIntyre's crown!

The jump Rachel made from young adult to adult was both courageous and rewarding. Her depiction of her well rounded characters really drew you in and made you want more. She subtlety showed comparisons about what segregation was like and what is to be the minority, stripped of all rights and to be thought of as less than human. She does this in a very clever way and really shows the struggles of these character. Her heroine is their saviour, fighting all the atrocities that are happening and advocating for them. She is such a strong willed person and not easily broken. She does not rely on someone saving her....she'll save herself!! Well done Rachel, Loved this book and cannot wait for another :)

Miniature game pieces are amazing (3 more)
Game board tiles art is amazing
Card artwork is amazing
Story is amazing ice a
Epic board game
Mice and Mystics is a phenomenal dungeon based board game which has an awesome story to help drive game play. The fighting mechanism is all down the roll of the dice with opportunity for the attacks to also be blocked by the roll of the dice. You get a chance to search for special equipment as well to help your missions. If you want a game that is going to keep you occupied for hours and can be played between 1 and 4 people it is one that needs to be purchased. This will not let you down in any way.

Great book and story. I love the characters and getting to know more about thier backgrounds. This book does reference the other five books in the universe, including some spoiliers, it gives enough to let you know you need read them, but you won't be lost if you haven't yet. If you have read them, you are in for a treat and like me probably will long for the next book. Told through multiple pov king of scars will take you on a journey, of loss, love responsibility, keeping a crumbling kingdom together as it comes apart at the seams, and hope through the darkest times. How bad can it get when you're a boy king fighting a deamon? plenty... It's Ravka

If you are looking for something Harry Potter like but more swords and fighting the Percy Jackson series is for you. Percy is a 12 year old who discovers his true lineage as the son of a Greek god. He is then thrust into the world of heroes and monsters. Percy can be very whiny at times but fellow heroes Annabeth and Grover balance him out with wit and humor. Although it is a YA title there is violence that includes death so if you might not want to read it to small children. All in all, it is a great book and better series give it go.
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2460 KP) rated Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle (Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Meet Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle. All the kids love hanging out at her house since she serves tea and cookies and is lots of fun. And the parents love her, too, because she has cures that will get kids to take baths or stop being selfish or fighting or not putting toys away….
This book is filled with fun short stories as the kids quickly realize why they wouldn't want to have their own way all the time. These cures are a bit more realistic than some in later books, so I love the later books better. Still, this is a fun introduction to a charming character.

Elli H Burton (1288 KP) rated The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010) in Movies

That's it guys, getting better.
I don't feel the acting is as forced as it is in new moon and there are some funny moments that seem more natural than with previous attempts with humour (with Jacob it's still stupid but I guess you have to think of him as a 16/17 year old boy which he is supposed to be).
The fighting bits in it are cool especially since it's the first real action you see in the saga.
Watching it now, besties Edward and Jacob are having a cosy chat in a tent so I best go and carry on watching!! #teamedward #manimsad

Sarah Betts (103 KP) rated Hood Academy in Books

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
WHERE WOLF? THERE WOLF! THERE CASTLE!
I really liked this book! Mia is a likable strong character who dealt with horrible abuse.
Then her abuser is attacked by a werewolf.
Suddenly she's taken to a school to train in fighting werewolves and discovers the things she thought were good may not be.
So. I really did like this book but there were a few things that struck me as off.
A character is very upset at the idea of werewolf hunting. Another character doesn't even consider that they could be a werewolf.
It's strange because this character was shown to be pretty intelligent before that.

James Koppert (2698 KP) rated Funny Cow (2017) in Movies

Another bleak British belter
British cinema tends to be a)about working class people and b) be very miserable. I had a group of American friends staying over and shared with then a selection of British films. They all admitted to feeling suicidal at the end of it.
Some people will watch Funny Cow and expect a rip roaring comedy about a female stand up comedian. That it is not. This is the story of a working class rebel fighting domestic violence and oppression by seeing the funny side. It is brave and probably be very misunderstood by most. For me it was a poignant reminder of the fight some people have to be heard. A brave and strong film.
