Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2196 KP) rated Trunk Music (Harry Bosch #5) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Harry Bosch is back working homicide, and his first case involves a body left in a car trunk. It looks like the victim was the victim of a mob hit, and he has connections in Las Vegas. Is the case really going to be that simple?
Bosch’s cases are always fun, and this book is no exception. I was able to spot a couple of the twists coming a little early, but that was a minor complaint. The characters are strong, both returning and new. A face from Bosch’s past comes back into his life here, and I love his new lieutenant.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2196 KP) rated Two Wrongs Don't Make a Write in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Writer Cassie and police detective James have been dating for two months, and Cassie has decided it is time to meet James' father, a man he hasn't talked to much since he was kicked off the force for being a corrupt cop years ago. But when a body is found and James' father had ties to the victim, Cassie steps in to find out what is really happening. I love these characters, and they are great to spent time around. The plot is a bit slow at first, but it picks up as it goes a long. Lots of fun overall.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2196 KP) rated Mr. Monk Helps Himself (Mr. Monk #16) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Natalie's new self-help guru commits suicide in the middle of a public event, but she's convinced it is murder. Meanwhile, Monk is hired to find the killer of a clown, one of his top 100 phobias. This is going to be the biggest test of their new partnership.
This is the first tie in novel not written by Lee Goldberg, but since Hy was a writer on the show, he already knows the characters. He's picked up from where Lee left off, and fans of the show and the books will love it. Laughs, good mysteries, and great characters.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2196 KP) rated The Wig in the Window (Young and Yang, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
This first in a new Middle Grade mystery series introduces us to two seventh graders who have decided they want to work for the FBI. They are practicing by spying on their neighbors, but the game turns serious when they see a neighbor committing a crime. Things may not be what they seem. Or they might be in some serious danger.
The book pulled me in with great main characters and a plot that gets very suspenseful as the book progresses. The target audience will definitely love it, and any adult who enjoys a good mystery should pick it up, too.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2196 KP) rated Death of a Crabby Cook (Food Festival Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Darcy has taken a job helping her aunt in her San Francisco food truck. On her first day, Aunt Abby gets into an argument with the chef at a nearby restaurant who wants the food trucks, which he views as competition, gone. When he is murdered that night, Abby becomes the chief suspect.
This was a wonderful debut. The characters were real and fun to spend time with. I absolutely love how the romance is already progressing. The plot is strong with plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing right until the very end. I'm already hungry for the sequel.

Lindsay (1717 KP) rated A Texan's Honor (Heart of a Hero, #2) in Books
Feb 15, 2018
It was a book that had me wondering more about Scout then Will McMillan and Jamie. I first I was wondering what was going on. But I knew it was Train Robbery from the start. I was wondering how and why there was a female hostage. I was more interested the lives of Scout more then anyone else. Will had my interest as well, because of what his occupation was I was really wondering until it was reveled and I had a feeling that Will would find love on the train. Though I was surprised with the relationship Will and Scout having along with What Scout did for a girl. I was hoping to hear more about Clayton and his wife and Sister Corrine.
Dana (24 KP) rated Real Ghosts, Restless Spirits, and Haunted Places in Books
Mar 23, 2018
If you know me, besides true crime, you will know I love ghost stories. Especially true accounts of them. That made this the perfect book for me. I found this at a used book store in the city of Orange, California when I was visiting my friends and it was so cheap, I couldn't pass it up. With so many first person true accounts as well as descriptions of famous haunted places around the world, it was indeed an interesting read. I loved how it was broken up into sections of similar stories, so that will make it easier to go back to if I find it necessary (which I most definitely will at some point)! Brad Steiger, great job compiling this book!
Awix (3310 KP) rated Charade (1963) in Movies
Feb 27, 2018 (Updated Feb 27, 2018)
Effervescent Hitchcock pastiche. Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant spar and fall in love while attempting to discover the whereabouts of a stolen fortune; James Coburn and George Kennedy are amongst the killers also taking an interest in the cash.
Film's main plus points are its ingeniously convoluted script, practically guaranteed to keep the viewer guessing, and sparkling dialogue, which Grant and Hepburn put across every bit as well as you would expect. Film also has a touch of grit in the thriller elements, as well. A highly polished piece of escapist entertainment; classy in every department. Almost certainly showing on a video-sharing website near you (Universal mucked up the copyright notice and the film has been in the public domain ever since it was first released).

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2196 KP) rated Space Case (Moon Base Alpha #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Dashiell Gibson is one of the first people living on the Moon colony, and he’s found life for the kids to be rather boring. All that changes when one of the residents is found dead outside the base. While everyone thinks it was an accident, Dash is certain it was murder. But can he prove it?
This is a great combination of mystery and science fiction. The setting is realistically done and really adds to the story. The target middle grade audience will love the characters and the humor. Personally, I never saw the ending coming. I can’t wait for the sequel.

Heather Cranmer (2721 KP) rated Sovereign Hope (Hope, #1) in Books
Jun 7, 2018
Wow, wow, wow!!! I. Absolutely. Loved. This. Book! I won't say it reeled me in on the first page, but by the third page, I had a hard time putting this book down.
I loved the characters as well especially Farley, Agatha, and Daniel. I felt they were all well developed characters.
Yes, there is a bit of a love story going on but it doesn't take over the whole book which is nice. It's more of a backstory. There was also plenty of action.
This is definitely one of my favourite reads of forever! I'd definitely recommend this book. I can't wait until the second in the series comes out.
Frankie Rose has done an amazing job!!! Haven't read a book this good in ages =D
