This book has all the ingredients for a good Young Adult Thriller, but for me, it just didn't quite work out that way. Perhaps it was the insta-love going on, with marriage mentioned very quickly into their 'relationship'. Perhaps it was the best friend who wasn't a best friend at all that I actually felt sorry for. Perhaps it was the dodgy behaviour of the main characters. I don't know. It just didn't quite work for me. There is also the fact that Scarlett makes a HUGE deal about not remembering anything before she was four, but has no hesitation in talking about it to a complete stranger at the first opportunity.
An interesting premise, with a cult aspect, that just didn't work for me. Try it for yourself though, don't take my word for it!
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Merissa (12894 KP) rated Resurrection of an Empire (The Magic Within #2) in Books
Jun 7, 2023
Resurrection of an Empire starts pretty much where Bound to Survive finished. We meet up with Henry, Clarence, Christopher and Elle as they try to reawaken and revitalise the Keep, making it a home for people again. It actually starts with a prologue that will immediately have your heart jumping, but you will have to carry on reading to find out what is happening!
With thrills, spills, action, adventure, evil, love, dying, and hope, there is something in here for all fantasy lovers. Hang on for a thrilling ride as Ms Gibbs puts you through your paces in a fast but smooth adventure fantasy read.
This is part of a series, so I would definitely recommend reading Bound to Survive first. Also, you can get Beginnings, a free prequel novella from her website, or by clicking http://sharongibbsauthor.com/book/beg...

Nevernight ( Book 1)
By Jay Kristoff
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Mia Corvere is only ten years old when she is given her first lesson in death.
Destined to destroy empires, the child raised in shadows made a promise on the day she lost everything: to avenge herself on those that shattered her world.
But the chance to strike against such powerful enemies will be fleeting, and Mia must become a weapon without equal. Before she seeks vengeance, she must seek training among the infamous assassins of the Red Church of Itreya.
Inside the Church's halls, Mia must prove herself against the deadliest of opponents and survive the tutelage of murderers, liars and daemons at the heart of a murder cult.
The Church is no ordinary school. But Mia is no ordinary student.
Oh I just loved it! It was dark and dangerous. I love his writing and this did not disappoint. It was everything I expected it to be, the story and characters were just so interesting I didn’t want to stop reading.

It Starts with Us (It Ends with Us 2)
By Colleen Hoover
⭐️⭐️
Lily and her ex-husband, Ryle, have just settled into a civil co-parenting rhythm when she suddenly bumps into her first love, Atlas, again. After nearly two years separated, she is elated that for once, time is on their side, and she immediately says yes when Atlas asks her on a date.
But her excitement is quickly hampered by the knowledge that, though they are no longer married, Ryle is still very much a part of her life—and Atlas Corrigan is the one man he will hate being in his ex-wife and daughter’s life.
Ok so I read this to see how the second half was going to go I’m not a huge fan of these characters at all and I absolutely hate Ryle I wasn’t overly impressed with this one it wasn’t terrible but it just wasn’t great either especially when people have it on a pedestal.

ClareR (5879 KP) rated Ritual of Fire in Books
Sep 24, 2024
I didn’t want to get involved with another series, I’d sworn off them. But here we are, Ritual of Fire is excellent, and I need to hurry up and read book 4 (A Divine Fury) before I read book 5!
I’m addicted to the world of Cesare Aldo and 16th Century Florence with all of its richly described sights, sounds and smells. I love the characters, their relationships (Aldo, Saul the Jewish Doctor, Strocchi and the obnoxious Bindi) - just the whole package!
From the title you can guess that there’s going to be some unpleasant murders this time, and the first death is set up in the same way as that of a renegade monk, Savanola, 40 years previously. Burning.
Aldo had been banished in the last book, but he manages to become embroiled in the mystery (thank goodness!), and Strocchi has to work with him (after a word or two from his wife!).
This series is well worth becoming deeply involved with (ahem…me!). Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Debbiereadsbook (1437 KP) rated Alternating Current (Brannon Boys) in Books
Feb 14, 2025
short and sweet, steamy and smexy!
I was gifted my copy of this book.
What this is, right, is a short, sweet, super smexy read, that hit all the spots that needed hitting for me, at this moment in time.
It is, quite simply, boy meets boy, they fall in love, the end! And I freaking loved it and the only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars was cos it was too flipping short and I wanted MORE of these two, I really did!
Neither Kyle nor Garrett is looking for anything permenant, but when Garrett comes to Kyle's apartment to fix his air con, all bets are off and the pair fall hard and fast and so flipping cutely, it was almost pure sugar.
This is set in the Brannon Brothers realm, and it's not necessary to read the first Brannon book, Heat Transfer, to follow this one. Garrett has connections with those boys, which is why it's in the series.
Short and sweet, smexy and steamy, a fabulous 4 star read.
