Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated The Wolverine (2013) in Movies
Jun 10, 2019
Darren Aronofsky was originally chosen to direct this second Wolverine solo outing but had to drop out due to travel restraints. Instead, James Mangold was brought in to helm this thrilling adventure as Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was the fish-out-of-water that the series needed. Set for the majority of the runtime in Japan, and with an exciting action sequence set atop a bullet train, The Wolverine was a reasonable return to form for the X-Men solo movies.

The Craggus (360 KP) rated Aquaman (2018) in Movies
Dec 18, 2018 (Updated Dec 18, 2018)
Is the DCEU better down where it's wetter? #Aquaman (2018) #Review
Imagine, ten years ago, if someone had told you the future of the DC cinematic universe would rest on the shoulders of…Aquaman. Yeah, that Aquaman, the character who had only really made it into pop culture consciousness as a fish-wrangling joke. Fresh from the, if not triumph, then at least plummet-arresting crunching gear change of “Justice League”, the DCEU looks to rise once again from the depths with this Māui-ised incarnation of Arthur Curry....

Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Doctor Who: Orbis (The New Eighth Doctor Adventures) in Books
Jan 12, 2018
While not as epic as the previous 2 parts, this "coda" does a nice job of hitting the reset button for the 8th Doctor (who apparently, is the amnesia king having had it The Movie, several of the books, Big Finish's divergent universe AND again here).
Sure, the jelly fish and the mollusks are a bit silly and nearly panto, but it makes for a nice change of pace from the heaviness of Morbius before it. But it's the tragic ending that sells this for me. The idea that the Doctor screws up...

Jcadden76 (64 KP) rated Google Maps - GPS Navigation in Apps
Jun 15, 2018
My preferred way to keep from getting lost.
I use Google Maps a lot. There is something nice about having all of the maps for anywhere that you are right in your hand at all times.
Recently on a trip to Seattle, as a family, we used Google maps to get down to Pike's Fish Market, find a spot for lunch, get back to the car, and then with a quick Google search we got to drive by the Hospital that they use for the outside shots of Grey's Anatomy.
Such a solid app!

MayDayReject (103 KP) rated Help I'm a Fish (2000) in Movies

Brilliant voice cast (2 more)
Superb animation
Great music
Amazing amazing film!!!! Not enough people have seen it. I watched it first as a kid and Alan Rickman's antagonist fish scared the life out of me. It wasn't until I was that bit older that I was able to watch the film all the way through. The music is very catchy and as the film progresses it's very easy to become invested in the characters. Love, family, loyalty, bravery, friendship and a touch of magic. 10/10 would recommend for everyone who likes films that are a bit different.

Old School Action
Rewatched this in UHD and it's still as good today as it was when first released 31 years ago!.
A very simple plot (as was the case with these type of movies back then and now) with Arnold as a fish out of water russian cop trying to track a bad guy drug dealer who has fled from moscow to chicago.A wise cracking american cop (belushi) is Arnold's guide through chicago as he hunts down the bad guy..Some funny one liners and old school action set pieces make this an enjoyable film.

David McK (3248 KP) rated Rush Hour 2 (2001) in Movies
Jan 15, 2021
2001 sequel to the 1998 original, picking up with Carter and Lee in Hong Kong (see the end of 'Rush Hour'), effectively flipping the script from the first film on its head - now it's Carter who is the fish out of water.
However, when the American embassy is bombed and the trail leads to the triad its not long before they are both back on the job, ending up (in this case) in Las Vegas and a link to Chief Inspector Lee's past.
Not as funny as the first film, with Tucker seeming to dial the 'annoyingness' up to 11!

Purple Phoenix Games (2266 KP) rated Baby Dinosaur Rescue in Tabletop Games
Apr 21, 2021
The Kids Table series from Purple Phoenix Games seeks to lightly explore games that are focused toward children and families. We will do our best to give some good insight, but not bog you down with a million rules.
The island’s volcano is about to erupt! We HAVE to get these baby dinosaurs to safety FAST! Place the game board on the table with the lava tracker token on the highest lava spot. Depending on how challenging you want your game, place all your dinosaur tokens at the bottom of the board ready to move to safety. Shuffle the cards and deal each player three. You are ready to truck it to the safety of a neighboring island.
On your turn you will play a card from your hand and move any dinosaur to the next-closest open spot that matches the card you played. So if you play that Fish Bone card, move one dino to the first Fish Bone spot on the board you see. Draw another card and it’s the next player’s turn. Do they also have a Fish Bone? Great, play it now because the next-closest open Fish Bone spot is the one PAST where you last placed a dino moving them even further ahead!
Uh oh, have a Lava card in your hand? You HAVE to play that first. When a Lava card is played, no dinosaurs move, but the Lava token moves down one spot closer to obliterating the island!
Play continues in this fashion of playing cards and hopefully leap-frogging dinos to move further ahead on the path to safety. Players are playing cooperatively, so either everyone wins when all the dinos get to the other island, or everyone loses because the island has been burninated.
Components. Any game with a trumpet-playing character already has great components. But, the board and chips are good sturdy quality, and the cards are as well. If you find that you will be playing this one quite a bit I would suggest sleeving the cards as they are handled a lot during play.
We love this game and my son requests it more than any other game we own. It is simple, fun, and tense at times! What we love about this game as parents is that it teaches children about cooperative gaming. No dinosaurs are owned in the game – everyone is trying to save ALL the dinos, not just “THEIR” dino. It also teaches that sometimes you have Lava cards and are unable to help the team, and that’s okay because another player will pick up that slack and make the team better. Gotta love educational games with great themes! Pick it up online as I haven’t seen it in stores anywhere.

Mark Halpern (153 KP) rated Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) in Movies

ABC
From a person who has been in sales his entire life this movie hits right at home. A.B.C Always Be Closing has become a signature in the selling field now for the past 20+ years. The cast in spectacular in drama. If you can't cold call and sell then the next guy who can will take your place. This movie shows us what it is like in those dark cold calling offices where all you had was a roladex and phone and you had to get you hook in the mouth of a fish and stuff you pitch in and get that sell or bye bye.
