Andrew Kennedy (199 KP) rated The Girl With All the Gifts (2017) in Movies

In this modern age the market is saturated with zombie films and TV shows. With all of this choice a good one needs something different to stand out from the pack.
The Girl with all the gifts is one such film that stands out even with a limited budget. However, all the leads give solid performances and the story refreshingly doesn't rely on the same old tired zombie tropes that bog down other genre fare.
There is some prime story telling and the acting of young Sennia Nanua is by far the best thing, going from sweet young child to blood crazied killer in a heartbeat.
The film also looks superb wether it's tight claustrophobic interiors or zombie infested streets the cinematography is a joy.
This may be as good or better then fellow Brit zombie flick 28 days later even if it does lend from Danny Boyle's film in places.

I'm Too Old For This Shit
Lethal Weapon- is a classic late 80's action flick. This, Die Hard, Terminator, Rambo, all came out in the 80's. Anethor action franchise, that came out and started in the 80's. Catchy one liners, good action, good comedy, good adventure, and of course good actors.
The plot: Following the death of his wife, Los Angeles police detective Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) becomes reckless and suicidal. When he is reassigned and partnered with Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover), Riggs immediately clashes with the older officer. Together they uncover a massive drug-trafficking ring. As they encounter increasingly dangerous situations, Riggs and Murtaugh begin to form a bond. Riggs' volatile behavior might just help them apprehend the criminals -- if it doesn't kill them both first.
What a good way to start off a franchise, hopefully the other ones are good too.

The villain is superbly acted (4 more)
The film is extremely tense
The blood splatter is 80s-tastic
The music fits the film well
The diner scene is pretty damn cool
Adam Wingard strikes again with another seriously strong film. This one feels part home invasion horror and part 80s action thriller. There's some really nice blood splatter from gunshots in this flick. The villain is portrayed to perfection in a performance on par with Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler and Ledger in The Dark Knight, or at least that's my opinion. The plot is a bit wild but it's a fun ride with some really memorable sequences. The diner scene in particular was pretty spectacular even though in the grand scheme of the finale it wasn't the biggest attraction. All in all a very entertaining film and another hit for Wingard to keep him in my top 5 modern filmmakers.

Ballerina Dominika Egorova is recruited to 'Sparrow School,' a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. Her first mission, targeting a C.I.A. agent, threatens to unravel the security of both nations.
It surprises me a little bit that this film is only rated 15. There's violence, sex, torture, nudity... so many things that make this one classic fodder for an 18 rating.
Red Sparrow was a good spy flick, gripping throughout but a little bit predictable at times. The more I think about this one the more I'm tempted to give it only two stars. While I found the story line interesting, there isn't much that made me enthusiastic.
People ask me what I've seen recently and this is the only one I can never remember. I don't think it's going to be one of this year's must see movies.

Colour me pleasantly surprised by this one. I'd never really fancied the others, and honestly, still not bothered with them. But I wouldn't mind seeing this one again. I think it's mainly the idea of the origin story that interested me more, and it doesn't disappoint on that for me.
It showed something more than just a horror action flick. There were moments of community and loyalty, and it showed that even a bad guy can see the difference between right and wrong. Probably not in the best way to use as a teachable moment... but still.
Of course there's a lot of violence, but none that made me particularly queasy. I've picked up some more tips for the apocalypse, getting a solid grounding in self-defence from films recently. (Joking! Of course I wouldn't use anything I'd seen... but don't test me just to be one the safe side.)

Spooky Stories that are gore-light in the main
Horror-lite yarn that might have benefitted from a 12A
Directed by “Troll Hunter” director André Øvredal, I really enjoyed this one. I’m not a massive fan of ‘slasher’ style horror films. I have no burning desire to be constantly reminded of what the inside of my body looks like. So this turned out to be much-more to my liking than the normal horror flick. It had enough spookiness to make me turn on the lights when I got back home, but not enough to pervade my dreams.

What should have been an epic film for the decade fell flat on many levels. I got burned out with the whole superhero theme a while back. So I may have brought a little heat into the burning fire.
They took nearly 4 hours of a film and cut into barely 2 hours. Imagine the editing room floor for just a moment. So much was cut in this movie and seemed so choppy. You can see the edits that most try to hide. The bad guy of the film looked straight out of a cartoon. Which wouldn't be bad if everyone else wasn't portrayed to be a real life character.
It's a good popcorn family flick but for fanboys who have waited years for this movie will be greatly saddened.

Horrible acting (2 more)
Terrible ending
Shitty special effects
Stay in School kids, so you don't end up in a shitty movie like this
Midvale High, 1981.
Point form version. Track star wins the race. Track star drops dead
Sister comes for funeral
Students drop dead
The coach is a suspect
More students drop dead
Coach gets killed by real killer
Real killer digs up and poses dead girl in grad gown
Real killer gets bumped out a window with girl corpse on top of him
THIS MOVIE STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN!!!! Only reason it got two bombs is Vanna White was in it. And the always reliable Linnea Quigley makes an appearance...
Horrible script, even more horrible acting and a shitty ending made this movie the worst thing I've ever seen... Next to the Brittany Spears movie, Crossroads... And the Spice Girls flick... Which both stunk up the place... But this movie, from a genre I love, ranks down there amongst the shittiest of the shitty.

This was an interesting, small budget Sci Fi/Horror flick. It is revealed at an early point during the story that this is primarily a time bending loop narrative, following a small group of people who board an apparently abandoned ocean liner after a storm.
There is some set up at the beginning which introduces the star, Melissa George as she makes her way to meet the rest of the group. Once they board the ship they are fighting for their lives, with varied levels of success and the a time loop takes hold.
This is a well told, acted and directed Twilight Zone episode that just about manages not to out stay it's welcome. The premise is simple but the execution is a little more complex and to an extent, this borders on contrived but overall this an effective thriller.
The twists and turns, though for the most part expected, are generally delivered well and there are certainly memorable moments. Recommended.
