Sam Rockwell recommended The Deer Hunter (1978) in Movies (curated)

The Deer Hunter (1978)
The Deer Hunter (1978)
1978 | Drama, War

"The Deer Hunter’s something I saw when I was very young. I saw a lot of disturbing movies when I was young. Alien, American Werewolf in London. There were a lot of movies that probably kids shouldn’t go to. And it just blew the top of my hair off, you know? The Russian roulette scene. Kind of like the chainsaw scene in Scarface was just really dynamic cinema, you know? Raiders of the Lost Ark is another one. Jaws. You get me going, I can’t stop. But those scenes, they stick in your mind and, yeah, it changed you. I think they kind of change you. Maybe Deer Hunter changed me. It was about friendship. It was about war, but it was also about friendship."

You are dead you go home
A very sad look into a group of kids who think imaginary war is really that fun to play. The movie shows us what influance movies,tv,hstory all play in a kids mind and how they can take that information and really twist it. Sometimes friendship means nothing when war is declared.

Stand by Me (1986)
Stand by Me (1986)
1986 | Drama
Based on the Stephen King novel, The body, which is the backdrop to this great story. (2 more)
Outstanding acting from the then young cast.
Nostalgic story of friendship and the vulnerability of youth.
Coming of age movie, with the late River Phoenix. Stand by Me is a small, quiet film that walks tall and resonates long after.

Its a film. Jim, not as masterpiece.
If you're a star trek fan, you've already seen this. If you're not, you likely won't watch it. I thoroughly enjoy the movies versus the series. It shows the depths of the years of friendship these people really had. #rip spock, #rip mccoy, #rip scotty

The friendship between Harry and Murphy (0 more)
In this book of the Dresden files we see both new and recurring characters as well as hearing a little more of Dresden's backstory. Oddly enough this book is a little more optimistic than the previous three.... maybe because Harry has a chance to think. It's still the same sarcastic Harry.

I really liked the plot but something about this book was a major let-down.

I like the moral question it raised, the dialing down of Creepy!Roarke, and Eve's friendship with Peabody and that's really it.

I know that this is supposed to be about three years from the first book but this one felt kinda stagnant.

This is such a beautifully simple, truthful book. It's as quiet, calm, and simple as much as it is full of deep meaning. It is full of whimsical innocence that comes with being a child, but the messages throughout will resonate with adults even more. It is a truly lovely little book about friendship, love, and life.

"My oldest friend, David, and I bring this beast up nearly every time we see each other. It’s a beautifully bleak view of love and human nature. It seems to say that romance has the shelf life of milk. What a horrifying thought, but I suppose my long-standing friendship with David allows me to stomach this sour fact."

"I loved that it took time for them to come together, to fully form their friendship, before they jump into bed with each other."
