Dean (6927 KP) rated Bridget Jones's Baby (2016) in Movies
Aug 29, 2017
Not as funny as the others (1 more)
A dull second half of the film
A film of two halves
I wanted to like this as I do really like the first film, despite not being a big fan of most Rom/coms. The first half is quite good and similar in approach to the original. Also good to see most of the characters who were in the original 15 years ago. The second half though was dull and predictable.

Dean (6927 KP) rated The Princess Bride (1987) in Movies
Aug 15, 2017
Grand scale of the film for the time (1 more)
Good action scenes
Cheesy fun adventure
I can see why so many like this, especially if they watched it in their childhood. I only saw it a few years ago and it looks very dated now. Very cheesy, predictable but with some funny moments. It's ok but compared to the likes of @Willow (1988) or @Krull (1983) also released in the 80's it doesn't fare well.

MissCagey (2652 KP) rated A Walk In The Woods (2015) in Movies
May 14, 2018
Nick Nolte, to my surprise, stole this film with his portrayal of Katz, the alcoholic, skirt-chasing, devil-may-care friend of Bryson. He brought all the comedy and the film would have been drear without him. Bryson is the sensible straight man so they are completely at odds with each other but this contrast works so well. The film itself is not that exciting and there's no ending to it as such, but the cinematography is breathtaking and there are some funny moments throughout.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Deadly Sins (1995) in Movies
May 4, 2019
Well it was far from great, it sounds like a slasher but it was more like a thriller. It doesn't have many deaths, not the greatest plot, very predictable without much reasoning for the motive. At times it was even more like an erotic thriller. It looks very dated as well for '95, looking a good 10 years older than that, a lot of use of smoke machines here. Overall a funny, odd cheesy film for a late night when nothing else is on.

Obsessed book reviews (49 KP) rated For the Love of Katie in Books
May 7, 2019
This is the second book in this series by this author. I haven't read the first book in this series but it didn't matter one bit. This book was so funny, it had me laughing out loud several times. The characters were fantastic and were so easy to connect with. This author is quickly becoming one of my favourites the more I read. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
Highly recommended

Obsessed book reviews (49 KP) rated Melt for You (Slow Burn #2) in Books
May 7, 2019
This is the second book in this series by this author. This book will definitely take you on an emotional roller coaster of a ride. When you get to the epilogue you will be crying, have the tissues at the ready. This is a sweet, funny, emotional, slow burn romantic read. The characters were well written with fantastic chemistry between them . I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

Leighann Twist (26 KP) rated Santa Clarita Diet - Season 2 in TV
May 15, 2019
Love this show
Contains spoilers, click to show
This show was so good and Netflix made an awful mistake by canceling it after 3 seasons. Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore had amazing chemistry and I really wanted to see what zombie Joel would be like. First thing I said when season 3 ended was damn cant wait for the next season. Then Netflix was like Haha you will never know. If it wasnt for Stranger Things and Supernatural I wouldve cancelled.

likable main character (2 more)
likable love interest
anton yelchin
entertaining at best
i'm certainly biased because of my everlasting love for anton yelchin, and so i can't give it a lower rating than i have because i genuinely enjoyed it.
it was funny, interesting, and you do root for the main character. i went in expecting to hate it, because who wouldn't just by the concept? but you feel for him, and you kind of just want him to do what he needs to do.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2357 KP) rated This Pen for Hire (A Jaine Austen Mystery, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Freelance writer Jaine Austen takes on the job of writing a love note for a desperate young man. Then the object of his desire is killed and he is accused of the crime. Can Jaine free him? This is the first in a very funny mystery series. Light and fun. If that's the kind of mystery you enjoy, this is right up your ally.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2357 KP) rated The Spellmans Strike Again (The Spellmans, #4) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
For this go around about a family of dysfunctional PI's, Rae is obsessed with getting a wrongfully convicted man out of jail, Izzy is trying to find a missing butler, and doorknobs are disappearing from the Spellman's house. As usually, the family relationships provide the laughs and the plot with any mystery being secondary. And, as always, the book is very funny and hard to put down.
