Milleen (47 KP) rated Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine in Books
Nov 14, 2018
Winner of the Costa First Novel Award, this story will appeal to any fans of Jojo Moyes or Liane Moriarty. Our eponymous central character leads a very solitary, structured life, same clothes, same food, same two bottles of vodka each weekend. Eleanor exists but has not fully grasped how to live. This tale follows her as she tackles life and gradually reveals the deeply buried reasons behind her behaviour. This book is funny yet poignant and heart breaking. Honeyman has tackled the topic of loneliness, isolation and how our social interactions help form our understanding of others. This book will be the well-thumbed fodder of many a book group in years to come.

F***ed Up S**t
Long-time friends Alvin and Fran talk about the true crime you probably haven't heard of, because most podcasts cover the white male serial killers and not the minority serial killers covered in Affirmative Murder. Sprinkled with adult language, mood lightening occasional humour, and conversations about difficult topics, these two manage to be irreverent, informative, intelligent, and enlightening.

This is a great book. Although the target audience is at 10 or so, all ages can enjoy this book. When I first read this I just thought it would be one of those books that just dumbed things down and made fun of fairy tales. I was half right. It does make fun of fairy tales however it doesn't dumb any one down -too much, the princesses and princes can get a little tedious abet also funny-to make the main character look smart. Mostly, the villains vastly underestimate Cimorene. I have to say her common sense approach is a welcome change. Things don't just happen to her she makes them happen.

The Perfect Travelling Companion
This book is laugh out loud funny filled with interesting historical stories as well as up to date information with personal quirky stories thrown into the mix. A well-written travel guide mixing personal adventures with information about places, things to do and see (or not) and gives a true impression of the expanse of this enormous country!
As a traveller with a 3 week trip booked later this year, this truly was a fantastic read to offer insight into a unknown world (for me!). Who knew their political system was so complex? Or their history so diverse? Let the adventures commence !

Cumberland (1142 KP) rated Once Upon A Deadpool (Deadpool 2 PG-13 Version) (2018) in Movies

Should have went straight to video
I really like Deadpool 2, and this is basically the same thing. It has been cleaned up a bit so they could make it PG13. They also added in a few new scenes.
The things they added were funny, and the changes didn't take away from the over all effect of the movie.
The main reason I am giving it such a low rating is because, it was completely unnecessary. I would have understand a PG13 DVD release, but a theater release is just over kill. I think this is just a money grab mixed with an attempt to keep Deadpool relevant why they work on the next movie.

I have the advantage of not having read the comics, so I was able to go into this with fresh eyes and appreciate it on its own merits, and I'm so glad I gave it a shot. What a great fucking show. It's dark, it's cynical, it's funny and it's smart. Elizabeth Shue is terrific (but when isn't she?). Anthony Starr's Homelander is absolutely mesmerizing in a messed up way; he's a terrible, horrible person and everything he does is insanely wrong - but I couldn't look away. The societal commentary is on point. Really a very well done show in every respect. Can't wait to see what they do with season 2!

Not What I Hoped
I had high hopes of this book because i think that Peter Crouch is a very good footballer, a very funny guy and entertaining, but i was dissappointed to be honest. I was expecting his life story, childhood, shool, family etc. I was not exoecting an entire book on the inside story of what different football stars wear, listen to, drive and live in. This was more of an encyclopedia of football players facts than a Autobiogrpahy. If i had known what it was i would not have added it to my Amazon wish list. Ah well we live and learn :)

A very Funny programme
'A Good Place' is a programme that is quirky and really fun to watch.
I really like all of the characters, especially Eleanor. She's flawed, but you can't help but like her. All of the characters are believable and are complex and I love the chemistry they have with each other.
I love the quirky, slightly silly comedy and I laugh out loud frequently when I watch this. I also love the fact that this has twists and turns throughout the season and I love how season 1 ends.
If you want to watch something fun, then I definitely recommend this programme.

Sam Richardson (11 KP) rated Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) in Movies

A heady laugh
What to say about this? Not as polished as the first? Definitely not. Not as funny? No. However it's a good enough shot at the ever difficult sequel. The rock does a stand up job of being an old geezer. And the rest of the cast play their roles well however it just doesn't have the same... punch as the first (second) Jumanji film. It does show that, at the moment, the Rock can do very little wrong, apart from the horrendous San Andreas. But that's a different story.
Give this film a watch, knowing it's not as good but no where near as bad as it could have been
