Latest - at the time of reviewing - Ryan Reynolds starrer, in which he discovers he is actually a NOC (non Player character, for the uninitiated) inside a video game, that bears more than a passing resemblance to that of GTA online (or so I'm told).

Set in both his, and the 'real' world (to which he cannot cross over), I felt that had quite a bit in common with the likes of 'The Truman Show', 'The Matrix', 'Ready Player One', maybe even a bit of 'Pixels' thrown in, but is none the less quite enjoyable, with Taika Waititi stealing the show (and with Guy's best mate cop running a close second)

The hardcover debut wasn't quite up to par. Madeline and crew are catering the wrap party for the new foodie TV game show that is all the rage. It just didn't mesh quite as well as the others for me. Still, an enjoyable enough book but could have been better.

A little to contrived
So I just watched an early screening of the first episode of this series. As someone with decent basic knowledge of the timeframe and area I got the plot. However the friend who is unfamiler was to lost. I felt this is because the show tried to hard to be clever for itself.

It scenamatic where beautiful at part and if a fan of gorey death there is plenty that being said I found them trying to hard to be like game of thrones than being it owns show.

However not everything is bad about this show there are some interesting charcters that are emerging the young druid girl has much potioneal and the well known actors do what we know they can.

Unsettling and Entertaining
I am not a fan of dating sims. I would not have played this one if I had not heard a podcast on horror tabletop gaming say to play this game. They gave no details whatsoever, except that the game was free. No harm in trying it when it's free!

There is very little actual gameplay, as with most dating sims. A lot of just reading and clicking on dialogue choices. The game has all the stereotypical dating sim personalities and events to work through: culture fest, clubs, making friends, getting to know people. It takes a bit, but eventually, small things start to seem out of place or odd.

Once you start to notice the weird things, though, the roller coaster ride begins.

The game takes you on an unsettling, sometimes disturbing, trip that crosses into meta-gaming and breaks the fourth wall in some unique ways.

The art is solid. The dialogue and writing are excellent. Some parts of the game remind me of some of the older meta-gaming efforts out there in the late 90s, early 2000s.

Even though there are not a lot of choices to make in the game, not a lot of gaming, it is still worth the effort to watch the show and be part of the game itself. This game sucks the player in and adds you to its dossier. Guys and girls alike will get a thrill out of it if they stick through to the end. And trust me when I say that when you think you are at the end, just keep playing. Don't turn the game off for a second. Keep playing. And when you think you are at the end again, keep playing. And when you think you are at the end again, keep playing.

Like Risk, but without die rolls (2 more)
Deeply strategic game
Opportunity, like the books/TV show to make alliances with other house and then...honour them or betray them, often with game changing consequences.
Very long game! Circa 4-5 hours (5 more)
Games explanation takes a long time
Learning curve is high and will dissuade most players, given the time commitment and rules unfamiliarity, which can be exceptionally frustrating.
Need 6 players for game to be properly balanced
Will lead to a lot of analysis paralysis, requiring a bullish player to force players to make a decision
May lose you friends...
A Marmite Experience!
I love this game, but despite owning it for over 3 years, I have only played it 3 times. Each time, rules explanation took an hour and are not completely intuitive. Once explained, I almost guarantee that most players will not be able to remember the number of nuances involved in this game, leading to making a lot of random decisions at the beginning. However, as I explored the game more, I realised it addressed all the deficiencies I see in Risk - there is no chance from the roll of a die here, nor does being the most powerful player mean that things cannot turn, by virtue of the fact that players have a finite number of armies and units they can hold on the board...the more you expand, the thinner your forces and therefore easier for someone to start taking some of your territories. Additionally, the player interaction and forging alliances is interesting, but given the length and cutthroat nature of the game, people may genuinely get upset and not want to play. For GoT fans who are willing to put in the hard slog of learning and then playing the game, this is great. If you're on the fence, I suggest playing it first...it is not an easy game and is a test of one's endurance.

Phenomenal
This show is amazing. If binge watching TV shows was an Olympic sport, I would certainly be in contention to represent my country, but I haven't sat down and watched the first episode of a show and then remained firmly on my arse until I'd watched the entire season since I discovered Game of Thrones.

Everything about this show reeled me in immediately. The opening theme, the cast and the portrayal of their characters, the storyline and the way it unraveled in front of me... A very special chord that was struck with me (punny!) was the soundtrack - that moment when I was entirely engrossed in what I was seeing and the fleeting thought of "Hey that sounds like Paint It Black..." then having the realisation that it WAS Paint It Black left me in love with this show from the very get go.

I recommend this show at every possible opportunity as something that should be watched sometime between immediately and ASAFP.

The Last of Us Remastered
The Last of Us Remastered
Action/Adventure
There are those who think that remakes of films and games are a bad idea

as they believe that they show a lack of creativity and originality.

However when a game is remastered it can be another story entirely.

Many classics from the past have had a graphical update especially PS 1-2

classics that were brought up to modern standards for the PS 3.

However when a game is remastered less than a year after the original game

was released, many are sure to have questions.

With The Last of Us Remastered, Naughty Dog has given Playstation 4 fans

what they have wanted, a top-flight game with a winning online component

and the amazing DLC that extended the story behind the award winning

original game for the PS 3.

The original game was a defining statement for the PS 3 but the game

pushed the system to the limits and with the PS 4 following soon after and

not being backwards compatible, a PS 4 version of the game was the best

option.

The game shines as the graphics have been taken to an even higher level

and the faster frame rates and smooth play let you really enjoy the

immersive world of the game as well as taking the horror to the next

level.

Playing as survivors from a Zombie like outbreak, players embark on an

escort mission to take a young girl to safety who may just hold the fate

of humanity in her blood.

The horror, violence, weapon crafting, and great narrative are all here,

and better than ever.

As a fan of the game, I had wondered if remastered graphics would be

enough to get players to want to play through a game again or if it was

mainly for those who had yet to purchase the game.

I have enjoyed the multiplay although I did have some long waits in my

connection, which thankfully have been addressed in the latest patch.

My wife had a interest in the PS 3 version of the game although horror

games are not her thing. When I started up the PS 4 version of the game

she was riveted to the tense opening scenes and narratives.

In the end there will be those who say that they do not want to play for a

game they have only recently purchased but Naughty Dog reduced the price $10.00 and added on the bonus content to make the investment a much better deal.

When you look at all the DLC content, episodes, as well as the ability to

screen cap and stream your action on the PS 4, to say nothing of the jaw

dropping visuals, The Last of Us Remastered is a must own for PS 4 fans as

they have made a near perfect game even better.

Obviously there is no good ending to this show, however, it was absolutely produced amazingly. The cast, production, and the way the story was told was phenomenol. It was very captivating! (1 more)
Told in a way that is interesting even for people not interested in historical shows.
Just as good, if not better than Game of Thrones
An absolutely incredibe binge-worthy show. There is not a boring moment in any episode and you will be wanting to start the next the second you finish an epsiode. It was told in a very captivating way that keeps you engaged and suprised, even if you already know the story of Chernobyl. Definitely worth the watch!

Final Fantasy VII Remake

2020 | Action/Adventure, Role-Playing
I just finished the game and it really delivered. The main story is pretty much the same as the original, but there are some new elements that change a few things here and there. Those changes honestly make the game better and add some great elements to the story as well as allowing you to get to know some characters better like Biggs, Jessie, and Wedge. The battle system is done really well making fights and boss fights fun. There are side quests and mini games that add more to the exploration of Midgar. Getting to see Midgar in depth like this definitely adds to the atmosphere and story of the game. The music for the game is perfect and the fact that each character has their own theme song is a nice touch. Cloud is much better here too. The story takes the time to show the pain and trauma he has suffered, but also allows him to be a little more vulnerable with his emotions as well. Getting to see him gradually open up and grow as a person as he gets to know everyone was great to see. The game is amazing and got everything just right.
