I did not want that. I wanted a complex story with romantic themes set in space...and that's exactly what this book gave me.
Fortune's Pawn rocked. Devi Morris is a badass, power armor clad mercenary with a dream to join an elite merc unit...but she has to get some expedition references first. So what does she do? Chooses the one ship with the worst track record in the hopes it with fast track her ambitions to the top. While I wont put spoilers I will say she gets her wish...kinda. She finds romance...that gets VERY complicated, mystery, and tossed into what is bound to end in an interstellar war.
9/10, highly recommend.

I haven't read the other series that this is a spin-off from. In fact, this is the first book I have read by her. It won't be the last! I loved not only her style of writing, but the romance in there. Yes, it's fast-paced. It is a novella, after all. But I loved how both 'Cherry' and Tarzan want a forever love, with romance galore, and they were happy with that AND each other. Plus, Keely's look? My favourite kind.
So many others I now want to hear from, but most especially Teddy - the one who doesn't want romance. I can't wait to see him fall.
A great read that starts off a new series with a bang. I just wish it had been a full-length novel, so I could get my fill of these two amazing characters.

The rest of the story was ok, but I did lose interest somewhere in the middle. My attention waned when the story didn't go how I wanted it to. It has me intrigued, though, but maybe not enough to continue the series unless things get hot and heavy with Nate in the next book.Hmm...I prefer my Urban Fantasies to have a strong romance story in them too, and this one was rather slow in that regard. Apart from a few almost kisses, brushes of lips and butterflies in stomach there was nothing. I don't know if that's because it was written by a guy...But I do tend to stick to female authors.

That makes it sound bad, but it wasn't, it was actually pretty good--it just took me 11 days to read. I just have to be in a particular mood to read erotica.
3 star for the erotica/sex scenes/dirty talk/play acting
5 star for the romance/trips around Paris/sexual tension
Eventual 4 star rating
It still has the usual hot and heavy Christina Lauren style to it but I didn't enjoy this as much as Beautiful Bastard. Maybe it was the wedding. I wasn't expecting that to happen and it threw me for a loop completely.
