Kristina (502 KP) rated The Changelings (War of the Fae, #1) in Books
Dec 7, 2020
In the beginning, I didn't care too much for Jayne. Her sense of humor was top notch, but her lack of respect for authority figures really turned me off. Thankfully she wasn't in school long enough for me to focus that much on this flaw. Because of Jayne's strong friendship with Tony (though it started out rather unconventional), I was able to appreciate her personality. I was really craving a story that had more to it than just a plain romance and I was not disappointed!
Kelsey Hathaway (21 KP) rated Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine in Books
Sep 16, 2019
I waited a long time to read this book. When I finally did, it took me until 150 pages in to actually like the protagonist. I think Honeyman was going for humor with Eleanor Oliphant’s complete lack of social grace; but it was off-putting when her bluntness because insulting to everyone around her. Good turnaround, though: by the end, I was really attached to Eleanor and invested in her happiness. So, a bit of a roller coaster, but ultimately wonderful. Will make a good movie.

Fred (860 KP) rated Avengers: Infinity War (2018) in Movies

Special effects are great, except Bruce Banner's head in the Hulkbuster suit. (4 more)
Great action scenes.
Great seeing just about all the Marvel characters.
PETER DINKLAGE!
Josh Brolin is great as Thanos.
Too talky at points. (5 more)
Some weird, illogical, wtf parts.
Guardians seemed out of place acting so serious.
Wasn't moved by the ending. Was kind of like, "Okay...so what? This is a comic-book movie."
Too long to introduce everyone.
Not funny.
Hype says it's better than it actually is
I knew this movie wasn't going to live up to the hype. Just like Black Panther, it's just an okay movie. Just like every other movie made these days, it starts strong, gets boring, then ends strong. Except it doesn't end too strong. It sort of ends with a whimper. I see memes where people were devastated at the ending. I felt like it was meaningless, as we know this is a comic book movie & all will be put right in the next installment.
I feel one of the main problems of the movie was the humor. When you have great Marvel movies, like The Guardians of the Galaxy films, and Thor: Ragnarok, which relied on a lot of humor and then are intertwined with a movie so dark, so deathly serious & try to keep the humor of those films, it just doesn't work. The Guardians, Thor & Bruce Banner were all throwing out jokes, but they mostly fell flat. It's hard to smile when Thanos is being an absolute terror.
All this being said, I did like the movie. Where I probably wouldn't watch Black Panther again, I would definitely watch this again. I actually have BP a 7, just like this film, I would probably change my score to a 5, as this movie was better, but doesn't deserve higher than a 7.

TravelersWife4Life (31 KP) rated The Choice Is Yours: 52 Choices for Happier Lives in Books
Feb 24, 2021
I loved Barbra Dahlgren’s sense of humor and the light in her heart that shines throughout this devotional. The humor in this book reminds me of Chonda Pierce and Jen Hatmaker. Barbra Dahlgren encourages Christians to find laughter in every day and to make good choices in our lives. I have only read about half of the devotions so far, there are fifty-two of them (Barbra Dahlgren suggests reading them over the course of a year). The devotionals I have read so far are great, very encouraging and upbeat with verse references mostly instead of the actual verse. As Barbra encourages us to read and verify the word ourselves rather than just basing it off what she says in the book.
One of my favorite quotes from the book so far:
“Christians are a rare breed when it comes to laughter. Just the knowledge of Jesus Christ as our Savior should fill us will joy, but Christians can be some of the biggest fuddy-duddies around.” -pg.40
I truly like this devotional, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a new devotional to read. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars for the way it drew me in and has kept me coming back day after day, for the sense of humor Barbra Dahlgren interwove into every chapter, and for the circle always coming back to what God said in the Bible. It is a book that I will continue to read until I reach the end, and then I will regift it to someone else who needs some smiles in their life.
*I received this book in return for my honest feedback. The thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.

Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated I Hate You, Kelly Donahue in Books
Apr 27, 2018
Mark hates Kelly Donahue. He is going to fight her to the death. and kill her. physically. This journal contains his research, data, death plans, and detailed drawings (well, or not so detailed, but still entertaining) of what she will look like when she is dead.
After finishing this book—and while I was reading it, for that matter—I really wasn't sure what to think of it. Was Mark in love with Kelly, but in denial? was he literally insane? Who knows! Either way it was hilarious.
I can't tell you much about it, because it's pretty short, and if I give you any more details than I have, reading it won't be as much fun. I recommend if you like humor, graphic novel-styled books, or journal-esque novels, grab this one next chance you get!
I'm going to have to keep this one on my "I'm bored out of my mind and I need a good laugh at someone's obnoxiously violent sense of humor" shelf.
Yes I totally have a collection of books like that.
Content/recommendation: A little bit of strong language, some (not explicit) sexual content, and drawings of… body parts. Ages 18+

Lots of Poster-Pause Moments
Wonderful for Anyone Who Loves Superheroes
As per everyone else I was waiting for the moment this movie cane out. I had watched minimal ads as I've found that the ads tend to reveal the most important of the plot points, ruining the excitement for those anticipating it's release. Due to my excitement I decided to actually go to the theater for this one and Lord did I make the right choice. Seeing it on the big screen was completely worth it, the sound and picture as epic as a superhero movie should be. The character growth and the script was well adept with both humor and depth. I was not disappointed. My only complaint was the multiple poster pauses throughout the film, by these I mean the epic scenes that suddenly slow down as though to be made into a poster later on, these I found happened every ten minutes throughout the movie and although it did add to the epic feel of the movie, I feel it took away some from the overall film.

Teen Rom-Com With A Superhero Twist
Here we seem to have two separate movies mixed into one. On the one hand we have this adorable romantic comedy about two teens that go on a trip with their class overseas. On the other we have our class superhero movie with Spiderman facing off against the villian and coming into his own as a hero. Both of these not only play well but were also well combined to formulate this movie.
I enjoyed the whimsical performance of Spiderman and for once didn't feel as though the humor was overdone with his classmates. Meanwhile, on the heroics side, I adored the organized fight scenes as well as how the shots were set up. Considering this film also takes place after the heavily emotional Endgame I found the balance between the humor and seriousness to also fit well without either being overdone or feeling out of place.
As someone who isn't a huge Spiderman fan I actually found myself enjoying the film and would recommend it for any family movie night.

Andrew Furlong (14 KP) rated Star Trek: First Contact (1996) in Movies

The Borg before Voyager demystified them (3 more)
Great blend of action, story, humor, and character
Seeing the First Contact between humans and Vulcans
Great acting from Patrick Stewart
Easily Picard and crew's best cinematic outing
The best (often seen as only good) entry in the TNG films is also one of the best Trek films period. The storyline blends both a Borg and Time Travel story in very clever ways and director Jonathan Frakes does a great job at keeping it fun.
