Books Editor (673 KP) shared own list

Sixteen months after Britain voted to leave the European Union, the political debate over Brexit seems as intense as ever.

Publishers, writers and bloggers alike have not been slow to spot the market that the poison has created. Yet too many of the books and pamphlets that have been published since the vote amount to little more than a re-run of the same old arguments over whether to remain or leave.

Four recent works, though, do better than most at avoiding that trap.

All four books—written by economists, politicians and political scientists—largely avoid churning out the same old arguments:

The Handmaid's Tale - Season 1
The Handmaid's Tale - Season 1
2017 | Drama
Fantastic adaptation of a great book (2 more)
Increasing parallels to current socio-political powers in the western world
Doesn't lose itself or its quality in the adaptation
Buckle up
One of the most intense and emotional TV shows I have watched, we managed to split it across two days just to get to the end but I reccommend pacing yourself as the content can be very confronting(as it intends to be). Fantastic social commentary once again by Margaret Atwood- a literary legend across genres and entertainment mediums.

The Wizard of Lies (2017)
The Wizard of Lies (2017)
2017 | Drama
DeNiro's performance is subtle but intense (3 more)
Brilliantly captures the subsequent decimation of Madoff's family
Well written - keeps you wondering how he got away with it for so long
A relatively dry subject is made to feel accessible and encapsulating
Unnecessary focus on scenes that added very little to the movie (it's already over 2 hours long) (1 more)
Maybe more insight required into Madoff's mental inadequacies?
Fascinating true story of a charming sociopath and how he exploited the mega-rich for billions

fantastic read
Another fantastic story from this author. This story has it all, funny, sexy and twists and turns. This book will keep you hooked from the first page till the very last one, then leave you wanting more. This is an extremely funny romance story. The characters were really well written with such intense chemistry from the beginning. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

I had heard good things about this book but the reviews were mixed. so I decided to give it a go and I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed it, it took a little bit to get into but then it just flies. this is defiantly a roller coaster of a story. the author has a brilliant way of writing the scenes so they are intense and very passionate which will suck you into the story.

This was an interesting story. After reading the author's note, I found out that the death in the family was actually voted on by the public because they did not like this incarnation of Robin. That was interesting and made me really think about the power of asking readers what they want out of the story. It was actually a pretty intense story overall. I am glad I read it, thanks Dad for putting it in my room to read, but it wasn't my favorite.

This is an intense and enthralling read with sharp contrasts between the innocence of youth and the dark underbelly of society. It is unique in that it centres around a group of 6 young children enjoying the freedom of childhood until they naively become embroiled in something that will change their lives forever.

Well written, great pace, fantastic characters and a complex plot makes this book a must read.

Thanks to the publisher, Bloodhound Books, via NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest review.
