KyleQ (267 KP) rated Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) in Movies
Jul 19, 2020
The fall of the franchise.
Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris) now has a psychic connection with Michael Myers, she has visions showing who and where he is going to kill next.
If that sounds dumb to you, then trust me, the movie will feel dumb too.
Halloween 5 feels more like a Friday the 13th movie, filled with dumb teens getting picked off one by one, featuring some unrealistic subplot to distinguish it from other entries.
Gone is the eerie suspense, the music is a shadow of the original's score. Gone too is the tension of asking "where is Michael?" As Jamie's visions literally show us where he is.
There is also a weird change, in Halloween 4 Leslie L. Rohland played the part of Lindsey Wallace, shown as a friend to both Jamie and Rachel (Ellie Cornell), Leslie did not return for H5. In Halloween 5, they cast Wendy Foxworth as Tina Williams. What's confusing is Leslie and Tina are very similar to one another, they look alike and their characters were similar. In H5 they played off like Tina had known Jamie from before. So it begs the question, if you had to recast why not keep the same character? And if you had to change character, why not cast someone unlike Leslie? I don't know but it's always bugged me.
There are a couple of good things to say about it. Some death scenes are intense and brutal, the ending is good, intense with a decent twist.
Overall though, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers is the first entry in the series that really truly disappointed me, mostly due to its dumb story.

Actions have consequences (2 more)
Great characters
Art was beautiful
Short to play, but incredibly fun
Oxenfree was a beautifully styled coming-of-age story that pulled the player into the relationships between characters as much as into the drama of the ghost story. At times intense and a little scary (I'm a baby about stuff like that though), but also sweet and compelling. I really wanted everyone to be okay, although I fudged a bunch and not everyone made it out alive.
The actions have consequences aspect is great. The choices felt like realistic situations for the teenagers and each bad/good decision was believable.
Plan on playing this again in the near future to try and better improve my favorite character's chances!

MPMcDonald (8 KP) rated Bloodline - Season 1 in TV

Intense!
I was anticipating this show since it was announced as I was in a show slump after binge-watching Breaking Bad in the fall of 2014. This series reminds me, in a way, of BB. They both have main characters who are upstanding citizens and eventually over the course of the series, strips away the veneer of civility to reach their not so noble core, and possibly downright rotten, core.
Bloodline is much more of a family drama than Breaking Bad though. It explores all those familial ties and how they can be strained or broken, especially as siblings jockey for position for standing with their parents--even well into adulthood.

Yuri! on Ice
Yuri on Ice is a light-hearted romance between to professional figure skaters. When Yuri Kastuki leads a disappointing season in the Grand Prix Final, he decides to go on hiatus. However, before he begins his break, he mimics the routine of his role model and idol Victor Nikiforov. It goes viral catching the attention of Victor who decides to take a break from figure skating to become Yuri's coach. Soon enough their love blossoms helping Victor to learn more about human compassion, love, and understanding, and helping Yuri to overcome his fear of failure with love. The two hit it off and creates a delightful romance with an intense competition as Yuri battles hard to not only make a comeback, but to come in first place in the competition.

Entertaining
I've read reviews of this movie and they mostly were not good. I honestly don't know why. Perhaps people were trying to take it too seriously? Anyway, I enjoyed it very much. A fun fantasy story filled with magic, monsters, samurai and of course, sword fights. I have always enjoyed samurai movies(Seven Samurai is my absolute favorite). This one was just a lot of fun. The acting and cinematography were well done and the story flowed nicely. Plenty of intense action and it even had a love story. Didn't have the happiest of endings but not all movies do. Supposedly based on a historical group of samurai in Japan but, of course, with some great fantastical story telling weaved throughout. This one is definitely worth a watch!

Alicia S (193 KP) rated Unrequited (Fallen Aces MC, #1) in Books

This was my first book by Max Henry but I've clearly been hooked!? LOVED this book! Not your typical love story... with everything from MC bikers to Cuban drug lords and murder. A dark read, with a few scenes that were tough to read.. abuse, pain, loss... so much packed into this story. There is also a beautiful love story in there... King comes from a good place, educated and with a loving hard-working family. He and Elena clearly have an intense connection and he wants nothing more than to save her without destroying his place in his MC. Watching the two of them struggle through was torture and that cliffhanger ending!? Oh, I will SURELY be back for the rest of this story - can't wait!! Highly recommended!!

Perfectly creepy.
Contains spoilers, click to show
So guys, I just finished processing. “You” has to be the most intense novel I’ve read since The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.
The intensity Joe has in his, what he likes to call love, for Beck is insane! There is no easing into the stalker tendencies for Joe. He’s full bore from the very first time he saw her nipples.
I’d like to think that I would have some sort of feeling I was being stalked. “You” shows that one can go through day to day life and just never know. You would think once your friends started dying something was up…guess not.
If you love reading books from a love sick stalkers point of view then “You” is perfect
