Tears of an Afghan warlord

With careful and outstanding illustrations that give a weight to the setting and characters, this story of a Belgian journalist gives the story of Afghanistan from a non-US point of view. The encroaching of the Taliban at the withdrawal of the western forces echoes books like Malala's biography and show how little was really accomplished. As a way to bring this real-life tragedy to a different readership is a needed thing, well done to the writers and artist.

Came across this on Netflix and thoroughly enjoying it, completely different to what I normally watch. Am about half way through series one and is compelling. It is a political drama based in Australia with twists and turns, the only problem is that I keep expecting the unusual to happen as Anna Torv plays the main role of a journalist but those into sci-fi may remember her from the series Fringe and to be honest I haven’t seen her in anything else.

Interesting
A decent Netflix film part thriller mainly drama as a journalist for a New York based magazine is pursued for her account of an incidental that happened at her university years ago.
It's a good story based on a best selling book. Quite raw and gritty at times but also maybe has too many scenes around fitting in with the social elite and very rich. Didn't really deliver the ending it felt it was building up to.

Terrifyingly ominous, separating facts from fiction
Journalist Matthew D'Ancona does the arduous task of showing how to fight the current stream of fake news spouted by our current institutions. He is explicit in saying that this isn't the beginning of a radical idea, but something that has been building for some time, offering methods to combat the phenomena. It is deeply troubling how facts are pushed aside and myths are upheld by loud-mouthed establishments despite ample evidence to the contrary. An important read for current times.

Moth to a Flame
The Mothman Prophecies- Supernatural thriller focusing on a journalist whose wife experienced a strange moth-like vision immediately before she was killed in a car accident. Two years later, driving to an interview, he suddenly finds himself hundreds of miles out of his way in the remote town of Point Pleasant, where there has been a proliferation of `mothman' sightings. His research concludes that the visions are omens of disaster.

Richard Gere is really good in it.

Highly recorded it.

"Another example of someone operating outside normal parameters. Matt’s actually a friend of mine. He was a journalist and he’s this crazy, wonderful, funny, neurotic guy and he made this record and when I listened to it, I had the same feeling I get when I listen to Trout Mask Replica. When you listen to anyone: Tom Waits, Devin Townsend or Led Zeppelin, you can hear the influences, but when you listen to The History Of Now you are hearing something that is truly unique, I think."

The story goes back and forth between the past through the eyes of four roommates at Idlewild Hall, a creepy boarding school for outcast girls, and the present through a journalist named Fiona Sheridan. Fiona’s sister was murdered and found in the Idlewild Hall grounds, which had been long abandoned, and something never sat quite right with her. As Idlewild is bought and renovations begin, Fiona is drawn to it by her journalist instincts as well as the prospect of finding out what really happened to her sister.
This was a quick read. I loved the different narratives and learning about each of the Idlewild girls, as well as present-day Fiona and her desire to truly close her sister’s case. There was a big supernatural part that I didn’t expect, but it really worked. There were also some historical aspects that I enjoyed. The suspense and fear were so real in this book and kept me turning page after page because I had to find out what was going on! The stories you learn from all the different perspectives come together quite nicely and all questions are answered in a satisfying ending.

This book was a heavy read, and I was upset after I finished it for a few days. While the 'opioid epidemic' may seem strange outside of the US, and even where I live, because it's not as bad as the region that this book covered.
This journalist interviewed people that were involved in all aspects of OUD (opioid use disorder), from the people that have OUD, their families, and numerous doctors and counselors. It's a very comprehensive look at the whole situation. It was very haunting, and tragic.

Gripping, moving and thought-provoking, this short series follows a troubled journalist who returns to her childhood hometown to chronicle the investigation into a recent death and new disappearance of young girls. The series covers her issues, her family troubles, the town's history and the underlying layer of grime beneath the Southern hospitality. There are a number of strands to this series, all of which could have filled a series on their own, and are seamlessly intertwined to one complete storyline.
Excellently acted, written and directed, this series does not put a foot wrong.
