Second entry in Michael A Stackpole's Star Wars: X-Wing series (a total of 10 novels, the first four written by Stackpole and centring around a reconstituted Rogue Squadron), following on from'Rogue Squadron' and taking as its inspiration the old LucasArt X-Wing/TIE fighter series of computer games. Hadn't read books these since the late 90s.

These novels (and the aforementioned games, now all considered 'Legends' by Disney) are my head-canon of what the sequel trilogy should have been.

Anyway, in this novel in particular, the action now moves from space to the city-planet of Coruscant, the seat of the Imperial Government that took over from the Old Republic and - in the Legends continuity at least - also that of the New Republic.

Here, we have the members of Rogue Squadron infiltrating said city planet and looking for a way to bring down the planetary shields so that the rest of the fleet can arrive, but they may be playing into the villain-of-the-piece Ysanne Isard's hands in so doing ...

For anybody that hasn't read this, it ends in a massive cliff-hanger, so be warned you'll be wanting to move onto the sequel 'The Krytos Trap' not long after finishing it ...

Original idea of the killings based on Urban Legends

A cool, slick, Slasher film

This is a cool Slasher film that had a similar vibe to Scream and I know what you did last summer. It was released just after those films. The cast was very popular at the time including Robert Englund of Freddy fame and others from big teen shows at the time. Definitely one for Slasher fans with plenty of twists to keep you guessing who the Killer is, including the obligatory creepy janitor. If you missed it give it a whirl.

Join a Secret Society and Save the World.

Secret World Legends is re-released and is free to play. It has been simplified. The combat is streamlined. The story lines and acting is still engaging. A player can advance in level with a minimum of grinding and most quests are appropriate for solo players. Funcom has just released a end game raid for New York. They have been committed to releasing new material.

I have been listening to this podcast since the first episode came out and I am always impressed by every episode that is released. Not only is the final product amazing, but the work that goes into creating the podcast is always so impressive. A varied range of stories with differing degrees of success. There are 10 tales that cover the range of horror from urban legends, comedy, gore, Grimm fairy tales and many othe horror tropes. As with most anthologies the stories are short and sharp with the plot of each story being apparent quite quickly and there are a few twists and turns that keep you guessing.

There is enough in the collection to make you look out at the dark corners of your room a little bit more nervously and I will never look at a pumpkin the same way again.
